Diver0001:
I can understand someone's feelings toward their children leading them to hunt the shark but realistically, doing this thing is only going to kill a dog and a shark. The chances that the oceans will then magically become safer for 7 year old girls because of it is immeasurably small.

It's just good old fashioned voodoo medicine.

R..

Well put. And unless I miss my guess, chumming the water with fish blood and using fish for bait will still catch a shark (I fished shark, swordfish, and tuna for 10 years), even one dubbed a "maneater".

It's better to use live fish? Animals are animals. If using one is bad, using all is bad. I wouldn't bait my hook with a dog... or an earthworm... anymore. I just take pictures (using a tethered dog to draw in the sharks).

Just teasing (right?)!

I really don't think ScubaBoard is the right place to promote this sort of social sensationalism ...
Actually, some good has come of it.

My dog just crapped on the rug, so I showed him the video of the shark eating the dog.

Suddenly, his behavior is exemplary. :D

A man-eating tuna :11:

Tuna fish sandwich sounds good right now.

Most sharks taste much better than dog.
Shark meat is much healthier than dog meat.

An average stray dog yields a kilo or two of tough meat.
Dog meat is high in LDL Low Density Lipoproteins (bad cholesterol)

The shark weighed 140 kilos, which would yield about 100 kilos of meat.
Fish meat is high in HDL High Density Lipoproteins (good cholesterol)
and poly unsaturated fatty acids.
Shark liver yields mega doses of vitamins.

The islanders parlayed a small investment into a windfall profit of nutrition.

If the shark did not eat the dog, there is a good chance the islanders would.

I'm not sure they were trolling with this dog as he was obviously alive.

SB is a no trolling zone!

Apparently, the people who caught that shark in Vanuatu were using a live dog as bait! I'm not a member of Peta or anything but that's just not right. You can sign this petition to help end it.

petition here

or read the story here

no where did it say it was a live dog!

it could have been a road kill

what about the shark they killed!?!

a large shark was seen in the area, 2.8m is not that large, 5m is large!

what about a petition for killing the shark or is that acceptable to you?

diverberr:
Some cultures also still eat dolphins and whales. Doesn't make it right though.

According to OUR culture....its not right.
