First Time Poster..Be gently!

I am looking to purchase a TransPac with a Venture Bladder DiveRite BC. One LDS (who does not carry this product) stated the rear bladder and pack will roll back and forth. He stated this product was designed for doubles rather than a single cylinder. Of course he suggested I go with the Sequest Black Diamond. I mainly dive in the warm waters with some cold water diving.

Does anyone have a Dive Rite BC that moves around on his or her back? Any help would be appreciated. If so, is the crotch strap necessary to keep the BC in place.

I need to move quick on a decision I am leaving for Cosumel on Saturday.

He's full of it, but consider a backplate instead of the Transpac. Will be even more stable. Dive Rite makes them, and they work great with singles with the Venture wing.

Sorry, could not resist!!

Do a search if you have not done so already.

That said, LDS's who do NOT carry what you want, often come up with all sorts of reasons why one should NOT purchase product A (which they do NOT carry), but should go with product B, which is FAR superior, and low and behold, I have one RIGHT HERE!!

I SERIOUSLY doubt that the TransPac Rolls if it's fitted right.

The Back inflate BC's do tend to put you in a more face down position on the surface. This is VERY much exeagerted generally by those who don't dive them. I tend to stay more on my back on the surface, but it's not difficult to stay upright.....

Good Luck,
Ron

Thanks for the info. Are there other reasons for going with the TransPlate over the TransPAck besides stability? I like the padding on the plate. Other than the padding I did not see much of a difference.

Hmm, I have a couple of suggestions.

1. Ask the LDS what they're smoking and if they will share.
2. Find an LDS that knows what they are talking about.
3. If 2 is not possible, find someone in your local area that dives rear inflate gear and try it for yourself if they would be willing to loan it to you.

I have only used a standard jacket style BC in my OW and AOW classes. Haven't used one since. That was about 100 dives ago.

Oh, and welcome to SB. :D

When trimmed out right there is no reason either should roll you. I have seen guys do a pool trial with no trim weights a huge bladder, then they roll but not bad.

You should post the name of the LDS, so that we can see if they are located close to a nuclear contamination site, since the LDS dewd must have developed some kind of brain damage.........Venture wing will be fine.

Buy the following:

Oh, I also have a Seaquest Black Diamond BC (M) for sale, $250.00 pm me if interested.

I dive a TransPac II as well as a backplate/wing/harness, and I don't notice any stability differences between the two systems for single tanks.

As for differences, the TransPac II is a softpack, so it doesn't have a hard metal plate. The TransPlate system uses a stainless steel backplate. And it doesn't have any padding for your back.

A benefit (or negative if you like to travel light) for the TransPlate is that since it is a stainless steel plate, it will take a few pounds off your weightbelt.

Please note that if you buy Dive Rite's backplate and harness or the TransPlate, you'll also need to buy cam straps for your tanks. The cam straps are included in the TransPacII.

Regardless of set-up, I would get a crotch strap. For $8, it's a great investment. I need one for all back inflate BCs that I've worn.
