I would have to see who is instructing and when in Ohio. I think the last one was at Gilboa and I believe the instructor flew in but I could be wrong. I really like the reviews of this unit so I may just run with it and then try to rent something for fundies as apparently that is an option.
Why would you buy something that isn’t DIR compliant then rent something to take fundies??
Makes no sense.
The whole reason you’ll be spending good money and doing fundies is to be a DIR compliant diver.
If you’re not going to dive their system then why take the class?
Am I wrong?

What are the rules/regulations for weight pockets on the belt? I cant tell if those are not allowed.

In conjunction with trim pockets on the backplate.

i would imagine for fundies in a single tank it's fine, but you may find yourself naturally moving away from weight pockets as trim weights and/or weight integrated into the sta make trim and balance easier

That is the ultimate goal to see what I like. Hopefully this class works out for September(I put in an email about availability for that month). I want to learn all the right ways and see where I feel comfortable as a novice diver.

I did get the Pro system and am fully prepared to get the Halcyon single piece harness. For the price of the Pro I couldnt say no. And I will have the non single piece straps if I want to swap back out.

yea you just need a roll of webbing if you want to go with the continuous style. you already have all the other hardware

Its a nice looking system. I havent tested it in the pool yet. The bladder has to be among the most robust I have seen. Looks like 1000D cordura which if so lends to incredible durability. The backplate is as comfortable as what I tried on. And Im digging the single tank adapter. I guess next steps are to see if the harness is all I hoped it would be. If I have to spend $75 and a few hours to swap it out so be it. Im still sitting pretty good based on what I spent.

But all in all the webbing system I am really liking based on screwing around with it in the house.

Next steps are to train with what I have. Then train with GUE and see where I fall. Since I have no plans to ever go tech I feel like I will have the parts/gear to be where I feel comfortable. And I get to learn all the skills that should probably be taught anyway for comprehension in the other agencies(not dogging on them at all. I think my NAUI instructors did a great job).

if you're just swapping the webbing it'll only cost you about 30

There is a lot more to the class than being "compliant" on gear. For some reason gear is what people fixate on when discussing GUE, but there are two chapters on gear and ten other chapters in the book "The Fundamentals of Better Diving."

Fundies is a class where even the most ardent split fin & jacket BCD w/ octo inflator diver can gain from the class - provided they're willing to step outside their comfort zone with a little rented or borrowed gear. If they immediately revert back to split fins & jacket BCD so be it - I'd be shocked if they didn't learn a lot on the way. For me personally, none of my takeaways from Fundies were gear related - other than "Sydney is really F*ing cold in July, buy a Drysuit."
