I know buying the best scuba gear you can afford is important, but does the brand of air tank you buy make a difference ?

I just bought 6 al80's and didn't even think to ask who made them. Wondering If I just did a bad thing. :06:

AL80 are very similar in size weight and buoyancy caracteristics. Yours are probably made by Luxfer or Catalina.

Aren't most Al tanks made by Faber?
Since Faber's logo is "if it's Steel it must be Faber" I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no.

Aren't most Al tanks made by Faber? In any event, I think there are only a few manufacturers. You should be fine :D

Nope Faber makes steel.

Most/all? ALM (current day) tanks are made by Luxfer and Catalina.

If you use al cylinders for stages/deco the brand may matter because of bouyancy difference but to the average recreational diver it doesn't make any difference.

Best,

Chris

For alum tanks I would only buy luxfer, just in case I wanted to use them for stages later.

Is Catalina a good company ?
They are fine tanks for backgas. I just wouldn't use them for stage bottles.

Why?
I am not a tech diver so excuse my ignorance.
I would have thought that the requirements for a bottle on my back and a bottle I depend on at a deco stop would be much the same.
