Helium is easier to breath since its a lighter gas than air or 32% nitrox. This facilitates the removal of CO2, which can cause headaches (and other problems) when it builds up in your body during periods of exertion.

exertion doesnt cause headaches.
i know -my ex-wife had them before any exertion.

Thank you!

Thank you!

the headaches are caused by an incorrect ascent rate depending on the gas.

some answers are more correct than others.

be carefull what you read on the internet.

Well, I've had a co2 headache before so I am likely to believe it, and since she is in ginnie I doubt her ascent rate changed that much compared to when she was diving 32%.

I think someone is pulling our legs, lol

This guy is in a different thread blaming a diver with a dive flag for being targeted by a boat...I certainly take what he says with a grain of salt.

so
2 different gasses and only 1 ascent rate.

the plot thickens.

i would love to discuss co2 but its very late in the uk so i'm going to bed.

maybe later?

maybe.

or you could think - hey this guy knows how not to get run over by a boat.

its rocket science.

exertion doesnt cause headaches.
Exertion increases CO2 production. Increased WOB reduces CO2 exchange in the lungs, allowing more CO2 to build up in your body. Increased CO2 in the body results in headaches. I'm gonna go with experience on this one ... I've experienced CO2 headaches several times ... it had nothing to do with ascent rate, it had everything to do with how hard I was working on a given dive.

i know -my ex-wife had them before any exertion.
... ex-wives often do ... ;)
