Last year I was certified and bought a whole kit minus tanks. And I dived a whole lot, enough to feel I got my money's worth.

Just a few weeks ago I took a cavern course and was invited to, if I practiced consistently enough through this season, attend the Intro to Cave course this coming fall.

This means I'll be having to buy doubles, more regs, and most likely a dry suit.

Will my bank book ever reach stasis again? Is there a point when you just sit back and say, "Good, I've got everything I need. I don't need to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on stuff anymore."

Please, my more experienced bretheren and, uh..., sisterns tell me my credit ratings will recover.

No, not really.

you have a choice, and it really is quite stark.

No diving + Healthy bank balance + Severe Depression

OR

Loadsa diving + poor credit rating + Happy person.

There you go. a nice easy reply!!

PS Q - How do you make a small fortune diving?? A - start with a large one.
PPS for the humourly challenged.... small fortune is british english for becoming really, seariously, unimaginably rich.

NO......your hooked, don't you see that silver piece of metal in your lip?

Well I can save you a little bit of money...you don't need doubles to do intro to cave. You still need 2 sets of regs and probably an h-valve. You will have to talk to your instructor. And you could always rent doubles and the canister light.

You know on second thought, go ahead and max out the credit cards and buy everything, that's what I ended up doing. lol

One small piece of good news is that, for example regulators don't end up costing quite as much as they cost when you buy a recreational one...

For recreational diving you usually buy a first stage, two seconds and an SPG/console that may include a computer. Retail cost: ~$1k.

Now for your second "techinical" reg all you need is a first stage, since you've already got two second stages. And if you buy mailorder you're talking about $100.

Heck, even if you buy a 1st and 2nd retail, you're only talking $400 for a regulator.

Yes it does end for many divers. Tech/Cave diving is not a right of passage and doesn't have to be done to be a happy, safe diver. I have had my set of gear for several years and it serves me well for the kind of diving I like to do.

My friend...

I'm not at the stage that you are but, I think I can speak intelligently on this subject. The simple answer is... NOPE. Your account will never recover. Well, that is, if you keep following the path you seem to be on.

As for me, I'm going to have to limit myself for the next year (just bought a house). Plus, since I just started diving last year, it'll give me some time to just dive and gain some experience. Sorry... I rambled on. But, you get the idea.

Yeah..let me know how that goes....I just bought one too, and I can't seem to stop thinking how I want to turn certain areas of the house into a mini dive shop. The only limiting factors are the kids and the house...but that isn't stopping me from upgrading my entire kit in a few weeks.
