Clearly, that probably also explains Aqua Lung's GF high of 90 and Seac's GF high of 85

Well, I suspect that in a NDL-dive with a safety-stop of 3 min at 5 m is probably far away from a GF 90 unless you dive with a NDL of 1 min for most of the dive.

Exactly, conservative. More conservative computers keep divers further away from being able to make a significant mistake. The topic of divers not knowing their computers, skipping a deco stop, and going into violation gauge mode has been discussed many times, including recently Decompression Stop Guidelines - What we have to do if got deco alert?
