If you think the SXS is not as good as a "normal" reg, don't you think you should reevaluate its use as a back up?
Indeed a back-up should be at least as good a a main reg, right?
It’s all in the works- just waiting on my new C370 to get off backorder. I’ll probably still keep the SXS around for a travel octo, though.

So I dive a similar setup Mares made 20 years ago, the MR42T first stage and Proton Metal reg, with a MV octo. The MR42T is a small, unsealed diaphragm first stage, but so far I haven’t had an issue with it. The Proton Metal is a compact second, it’s bigger than a Aqualung Mikron but about the same diameter as a Scubapro S6xx series, think of it as the smaller brother of the Abyss.

The Mares SXS seems like an evolution of their MV series, itself was designed when Dacor was still around.

Merry Christmas

I've been using the Aqualung Helix Compact Pro for about 80 dives. It's flawless and brilliant.
Mares, only used low-end ones and do not have any experience with their more sophisticated lineup.
Compared to MK17Evo + G260, the Helix Compact Pro still holds strong, AL mouthpiece is much more comfortable (to the point where I installed an AL/Apeks mouthpiece on the G260) and is much smaller and lighter than the G260. The Helix Venturi design is brilliant, not sure if they use the same cover over the barrel design on the entire portfolio.
