Haven't done my own in the past, but am ready to start. Only problem is finding parts. I've got a air of Poseidon Cyklons, any ideas on a source for parts. My LDS won't sell them without installing them.

for Poseidon's. He always tells me he will not sell to me, and then he does. I am definately paying a premium price, and I would like to find a supplier for ALL makes and models. THAT would be nice!

How is any one checking the intermeiate pressure of the first stage. Also on a SP G250 there is a clip that holds the control knob in place, screw the knob in until you see the clip become loose. Be careful if you intend on taking the knob apart any more than replacing the three visible O rings as the rest has Factory settings that are near to impossible to adjust , that is if you don't break it when trying to pull apart.

Also I guess no one cares that self service voids any warranty

IP gauges are pretty simple and inexpensive to come by. All you need is a BC lp hose fitting and you are in buisness. I have yet to service a SP reg, other than the Duo Aire which is exactly like the Tusa valve. I don't rebuild regs for others as a general rule, but I have too many to keep putting in all that dough to have someone just blow through it just to take more of my money.

As for warranties... the kit cost is usually far less than the price to have someone service it. The tech doing the work also has a vested interest in getting it right the first time too!

Zodiacred,

If you want to assemble your own IPG, here's a thread with a brief how-to: Build an IP Gauge . This way costs about $15.

You can buy a fully assembled IPG with a fitting for your particular BC LP hose from Peter Built for $21 + shipping.
These gauges are good for checking your IP as long as there is a 2nd still attached to the first (the 2nd acts as an overpressure valve).

When checking out a 1st with no 2nds attached, the IPG should have an overpressure valve attached. You can assemble this yourself as well, or buy one from Peter Built for $40 + shipping.

Thannks for the web site. I'm in thr process of ordering that book on reg repair, guess I'll need that gauge also.

You can service the regulators if you have the parts to do it along with the latest technical bulletins on the regs. Then you need to test intermediate pressure and ..... So it can be done but much easier to have a knowledgable service person do it for you.

Working on your own Reg huh? Well...Again..As I've said before..It's "Life support equipment". You have all heard the term "Fail Safe" right? Where the reg. can only be in the open position if it fails. Well, if you improperly repair or service a Reg. it can in fact FAIL(LOCK UP!!!). Leave servicing the regs. to the professionals please. Yes...Pistons are simple. However the more high tech designs can be a bear to work on and need training. Working on a Reg. once a yr. is not adequate training. I hope you guys leave it to the professionals to service your reg. Deaths are at an all time high in SCUBA partially because people are trying to dive on a shoe-string budget, hence; "REPAIR MY OWN REGULATOR".
People, please be careful and don't forget about SAFETY.
