$110 in 1976 was probably a bit more expensive than what $450 is now though?

I put 4 Rolex Watches and my ORCA EDGE on the right manipulator arm of this sub when Sylvia was learning to pilot it. Nothing flooded.

I loved my casio pathfinder. I could wear it all the time - and I did.I liked the compass when hiking and the ease of changing time zones all over the world. Sadly after 3 yrs and 100 + dives it now thinks it's march 23 and off by hours. I'm afraid I'm going to have to retire it. A new one will cost around $250. Well fathers day is comming and my birthday is a couple weeks later :)

Define expensive. I dive with a Citizen Eco Drive watch with a countdown function for deco. It's rated for 200m and cost $175. It's relatively inexpensive compared to the Tag Heuer I own.

1+ for the Citizen Eco-Drives. I have this model, the "300m Professional Diver":

Citizen BN0000-04H Eco-Drive 300 Meter Professional Diver With Rubber Band,

I've been happy with it.

I think a decent dive watch is a good idea... but I'm "old school" and only started using a dive computer 2 years ago. I do use the watch underwater as a quick reference for elapsed time and time-of-day.

Best wishes.

...I'm trying to figure out why anyone would wish to dive with an expensive dive watch in the first place ? Watches are small...so easy to drop/lose/misplace....you're taking it on and off frequently whenever you put on/remove your wetsuit....can get lost on a crammed/gear-laden dive boat amongst the tons of other gear onboard....set it down in the wrong spot and someone's scuba tank can easily crush it..it can make you a target for crime. My 'cheapie' (less than $ 150) Poseidon dive watch is rated for 500 meters depth.
I'm not sure a scuba tank would damage a Rolex much--it takes a pretty good beating. But you're right, taking it off is risky. I hung mine on the shower faucet at the gym once and left it there, never to see it again. If you do your diving in the tropics, as I do, you just leave it on. The thin wetsuit slides over it and you pull the cuff up when you need to see the time, just like you do with a shirt cuff. Of course, there is no utilitarian reason to wear an expensive watch anywhere; they are jewelry. Any cheap quartz keeps better time than the most expensive automatic watch.

I send it in every 3 or 4 years for service and resealing. It cost me about a hunderd bucks but damn I love that watch.

Do you have an address to send these to? Mine is from 1979 and needs service. It won't keep running. The screw-down crown doesn't screw. There are folks locally who can fix it, but can't assure it will be water tight.

Thanks / Stu.

I wear a Rolex Submariner...and have done for the past 4 years, diving daily, crawling through wrecks, and down to depths of 80m. It never lets me down...and I never leave it at home (more scared of it being stolen than ever flooding).

I wear a D9 for dive info.

At least...if I die underwater, people have cause to come and find my body :rofl3:

I have a COMEX Rolex, and an Omega PloProf. I sold my USD orange faced Doxa 300 few months back. I used them all as dive watches for many years, but as they (and I) aged, they turned into jewelery. I dive a Citizens Aqualand.

The evolution of watches is very interesting..........

Waaaayyyy back, you had to buy an expensive watch to get performance and durability.........

Then something funny happened, Timex/others built cheap watches that actually kept better time than the expensive mechanical watches..........

So watches have become male jewelry, providing status, saying I have arrived.......

And if you're James Bond some really cool features..........:)

I currently work in Abu Dhabi..........you should see the folks lining up at the fancy watch store............young kids (like the ones who work in my office) spending months of salary on a watch............it is incredible...........it is the first thing they buy...........

Kudos to Thalassamania for admitting what they are.............which is fine if that is how you role.........

Just my thoughts..........M

PS.....I don't have any fancy watches......maybe I'm just jealous.......:)

I dive with my Citizen Aqualand, 92 dives on it so far and I use it almost daily as well. It makes a great backup to my computer.
