We do quite a bit of diving in Mexico using aluminum 80s. Those diving the Razer 2 systems do not have a butt plate. Clipping the tanks to the hip rings when full and then moving them to a second ring that is located further toward your belly as they empty keeps the tanks riding perfect.
This system works great even when diving a aluminum 80 stage.
No butt plates are required at all.

Slight Thread Hijack:

What is the logic behind the Buttplate anyway? What function does it accomplish?

-- Travis

For me, the buttplate becomes necessary when using more than two tanks that have to be rotated, not so much because the buttplate is necessary as much as it is just easier to work with that area with a big hook to hang things from.

My non-butt plate Harness is fine when I just have to hang one cylinder per side, or I do not have to rotate cylinders that are stacked.
