I do not agree. Recently I bought a Canon underwater case for my Canon camera from Amazon. The MSRP was 240 (already discontinued) and the price I paid for it, brand new, was 147,50.

Canon is not ScubaPro.

ScubaPro enforces MAP (minimum advertised price) but not fixed prices. Most ScubaPro retailers will offer discounts at the cash register. They do discourage below retail pricing but register discount are difficult to police.
You are very correct, although some will say that they will lose their ability to sell the product if they discount over the "approved" 10% - like the customer is going to call Scubapro and boast about their discount!

You can also (sometimes) get a larger discount if you buy a complete package.

Its similar to other retailers putting a price in an add and not revealing the manufacturer, or stating the manufacturer and saying "prices to low to advertize".

I don't like MAP; feel as long as the supplier is getting their price its up to the retailer to set theirs (although I'm sure Scubapro and others could give you a long list of why MAP is a good thing), but the US Supreme Court has upheld MAP - very interesting thread on this subject on SB fairly recently.

PS Excellent site Northwoods BTW - gotta be they are overseas to adv. such prices off list; still surprised Scubaboard lets them do so.

LOL..... talk about getting off subject.

My LDS only does MSRP for Scubapro. I think that they have lost a few sales because of their MAP model. I know that the wife and I didn't buy Scubapro because of the pricing. If you must have Scubapro, give Leisurepro a call. They will match Scubapro's warranty and you will save some coin .......

Get it from leisurepro and enjoy the cost savings!

I was seriously considering this. Are there any SIGNIFICANT downsides to this? It appears that LeisurePro matches SP's lifetime warranty correct? And I don't see LeisurePro disappearing anytime soon....so why do so many people say NOT to buy gray market?

I wont buy scubapro regs from leisurepro simply because they dont stock or even offer DIN unless I want to buy the kit for an additional $50. So I turned to ebay and figured out how to service things myself but when you own a dozen regs it starts to be more cost effective that way any how.

Interesting... How would my LDS know if it was even gray market or not though?

From what I understand, the serial number. This is how it seems to work in Australia. For example, I bought a second hand Uwatec Smartcom computer from an LDS (an authorised Scubapro dealer) who said I would easily be able to get the battery changed whenever I needed at any store and advised me to go back to them and the battery would be changed for free. For various reasons (a really long story...) I no longer go to that store and my battery died after I'd burned my bridges there. I took it elsewhere and they said I was not the original owner so it would be $520 to have the battery changed. I rung Uwatec to confirm this and they said the first store had told me the wrong thing, only original owners can get the warranty and free batteries for life honoured, and even if second hand owners have bought equipment off people who have bought from a Scubapro dealer, they are not covered at all. Luckily, I managed to find out who the original owner was and I got the battery changed for free via him. But seriously, it was a giant PITA and I was incredibly pissed off at the first store for telling me lies about the warranty and free battery replacement. They of all people should know this as they sell Scubapro/Uwatec products and I believe they presumed they would have my business indefinitely so they would send it away saying I was the original owner and I would never know the difference. I did ask if I could use other stores when I bought it and they said 'any store that is an authorised SP dealer will send it away without hassle for you'.

I am still going to buy (a grey-market) Uwatec computer, but this time it will come with user replaceable batteries ;) And I have now located a shop that will do servicing for me if required.

Yup; via the serial number

Your profile suggests you live in S. FL, so you have lots of options to get gear serviced - this could be a problem if you lived, in, say, North Dakota for example.

Ok I see what you're saying. So should just blatantly call the LDS and say "hey do you all service gray market equipment?" :dontknow: Even if there are 15 dive shops (albeit, not all SP dealers) within 20 miles...I still want piece of mind
