I don't know anyone with a "Deep Cave" or "Trimix Cave" or any sort of card covering helium in caves.

While you may not know them, the CDS Deep Cave training course is a helium course.

Yeah, I didn't know that. Thanks

How does the Deep Cave course differ from trimix courses taught in deep open water? All the cave-specific skills and knowledge have presumably been covered already, right?

In a situation like this why aren’t you using a line? Typically divers here carry wreck reels for navigation. This is great for low vis and critical on broken up wrecks where there is no continuous structure to follow back to the up line. It makes even more sense if you’re dropping cylinders.

Yes, we do too, and we use them for penetrating the wreck. But the upline isn't where you penetrate. In this case, it wasn't on the wreck at all. We dropped it off to the side of the wreck (so as to not damage the wooden structure), tied off a line from the upline to the wreck, and proceeded to the point where we were going inside, at which point we deployed our reel. Coming back out was easy ... but once we got back outside the wreck the vis had deteriorated sufficient that we weren't able to find the tie-off, which would take us back to the upline. When we reached our planned bottom time we decided that it wasn't worth continuing to search ... we were planning another dive on the same wreck the following day ... so we made a free ascent and retrieved the upline on the subsequent dive.

@CAPTAIN SINBAD I have become one of your true fans. You used to piss me off by starting the most subtly controversial threads in the most naive wording.

You, sir, are an artist.

Funny! Yes there are times when I would post things to :stirpot: and I am sure that you are not the only one who would get pissed off. As I revisit those old threads, the mud-slinging would still be loaded with a lot of useful information. This particular thread is also turning out to be a similar kind. When people get over the emotions and the personality clashes that are going on they will see that some folks have contributed significant information here. Though this post was not done with the intent of :laughrant:

The cave specific skills are reinforced/reviewed. There is obviously no drifting deco procedures involved. The rest of the trimix course is taught in this class.

The challenge in Deep Cave is sitting on top of the debris cone at Eagles Nest at 130' and aiming lift bags for the little hole 60' above your head. If the lift bags go through the hole you get an automatic pass on the class.

The above statement is completely fictional but it sounds fun. Please don't try this at home kids.

I'm doing my SF2 crossover with James in a few days. I might suggest this.....

Part of the trimix cave class is shooting smb in an airbell. Since 1 april I am allowed to teach this :D

Oh you're _THAT_ guy..

Nest is looking good right now. We had ~70-80' of vis on Saturday.
