DIY Dive Reel

Hi All.

Mid way through a Scooter build I was asked to Design and Build a Dive Reel that needed to be strong and light, I briefly mentioned this on my Scooter Build thread but think this is really the correct place for it.

great write up...

i have used a plastic line reel from lowe's... just switched out the line... has worked like a champ for a few years now.
i do carry a finger real as a backup.

I am curious what you might think about the use of a 3D printer to create this sort of stuff... I have never used one myself, and I know absolutely nothing about it, but I wonder if it would be a useful addition to the DYI arsenal of tools. One obvious area of concern is the durability, but perhaps it is not a major problem.

there is a big difference in reels between those with safe and KISS orientation and unsafe and complicated designs

I have oft wondered that myself ... searching online reveals a wealth of specialist companies - bit like ordering a christmas calendar, upload your plans / photo's, they will print it and send it back.

Taking things to extreme's, the process can be used with Stainless Steel.

Afternoon All.

Towards the end of the year but just had time to complete another Divers Reel in a different style over the last week. ( Cunningly named "Divers Reel V3" )

Have an additional final design in mind which will likely jump off the drawing board in January 2015.

I was going to save this till early next year but my Final reel ( V4 ) has jumped off the drawing board a little earlier than anticipated.

Have done away with the traditional Handle and tried something different - makes things a lot smaller.
