Unfortunately it's all about the money involved. The local anodizer wants a $50 minimum and I don't think I'll have enough business for them to make it worthwhile. If someone wanted to pay an extra $30 for anodizing, that would be a different story, though.

You might have more more people interested than you realize.

You might be right... If I can get some quantity orders, then I will try to anodize... Of course, this would be additional cost.

I got a call from Ostar today, they can put together a 20W LED tht would be great... Lets see what the price will be.

Isn't it always :D

Thing is though, the Raider is a decent (well ... so-so) light. But after about 20 dives just sitting on my harness - no real use, no banging around, no dropping - the Powder coat looks like crap. Light is worn down to bare aluminum on about 1/3 of the light body.

The light still works as it did on day one, but it looks horrible. So for the overall feeling of quality/durability/value for the $$, my preference would be anodizing.

I will keep my eyes on this thread. :D

As far as coating...some of us don't care if its plain ole bare metal. Practical and functional beats out looks every time. A wee bit of oxidizing wont hurt anything...I will probably crush it before I wear it out :)

I'm actually a big fan of gear that has a good wear patina on them. Shows the gear has been used and is still ticking. But paying $60+ for a chinese knock-off light and have it peel in essentially 2 months of fresh water diving rubs me the wrong way.

I guess it's about the perception of quality. I have an anodized pocket LED light that's been with me on many motorcycle trips just tossed in a tank bag. It has a few shiny spots which I enjoy 'cause it reminds me of the many great miles the bike, the light and I have taken together. The fact that the light has taken that kind of a beating and still works perfectly together with the genuine wear just speaks further to the quality.

Don't know how else to explain the difference :)

And now I'll stop 'jacking the thread :D Looking forward to see your lights.

Will definitely look into the coatings issue and see what can be done.

OK, just found a 27W LED from Osram. Ordered 1 to try out... Only thing it runs on 20.8 volts. That will have a 12 battery pack!. Probably a 3" canister about 7" deep.

Lets see how it does! BTW, The LED alone was $50 so this one is not for the budget guys...
