Well, several people (including moi) up-thread mention that they still dive with a mechanical, self-winding dive watch. (I don't own a PDC, really.) Certified in 1987. I try to avoid scratching up my regs, B&G gauges, and my dive watch, but I realize that they are tools, after all (which means they just might get scratched up with use).Yeah, a traditional mechanical wristwatch is now obsolete when diving. ...
i just popped into this ... i am going to have to disagree with that. I mean what good is a diving rolex if it max's out at 300meters. The deepsea has a max depth of 3900m - you clearly are not diving deep enough LMAO (kidding) the deepsea is built for scuba divers and in it's ideation for it to be wore while diving, case in point the strap already having the additional adjustable buckle for dry suits. The submariner is a stunning watch but that's where it ends as far as diving watches are concerned.Hmmm. I thought this was already decided/settled: Plain Jane Rolex Submariner (no date), the most recent model (16610?) that still sports the "skinny" lugs. Alas, this model doesn't have the ceramic ("Cerachrom") bezel, so there's that!

I use a Steinhart now (see link in this post Diving watches), but before that I used a Casio G-Shock for my recreational diving. I purchased a similar Casio for my then college sophomore daughter when she took her certification course a couple of years ago. She, too, was taught to dive using tables, depth gauge, bottom timer, and SPG (and compass).... Those earlier dives were with a $20 Timex with a bezel, wasn’t even really dive rated but it worked out fine. ...
