Diving Tattoos - Do you have one?

Yeah, that was much the same as my thoughts, Tracy, especially for the gal that had "My name is Kelly" tattooed on her lower back, and then upside down across her shoulders. Either her boyfriend has a real bad problem with calling out the right name, or else she skips simple introductions way too often.

Either way, I think a tattoo is a very poor remedy.

Steve, that barely qualified as a lightweight discussion, and we finished it off-board. If that one was too heavy for you, it's a good thing you have never hung around with some of the groups I've been involved with. Those discussions would have crushed you under their weight.

This thread has inspired me to design a new tattoo, one that is diving related. My wife does not approve...yet. She thinks that diving is a passing phase. The tattoo is of a tattered dive flag flowing behind a Loggerhead sea turtle with water ripples surrounding it.

It wasn't too heavy for me. It's just the fact that people were getting way off track with some of their posts, off topic, if you will! And I promise you I won't discuss tattoos in a church.

I don't know. I think you and Jeremy could discuss tats in church. I'd bet you could also discuss them with the one gal in the link I posted. She had 1 Corinthians 13 tattooed on her lower back, and what could be more spiritual than having Scripture permanently inscribed right above your hiney?

Hoomi - I like my tattoo. It's the Chinese zodia symbol for year of the dragon.

I did see the story on the 20 worst tramp stamps. All I can say is "Really?". Thanks for posting the link, though. I'm sure everyone else enjoyed it.

I didn't pick or rate the "tramp stamps"- someone else did. I will say that, if one really thinks they need to tattoo "F**king Classy* over their derriere, it's a good case for false advertising. For one, if you're actually a classy person, you don't need to tell people you are, and two, classy people tend to be rather reserved in tossing around the f-bomb.

I've seen some very nice tattoos that were both excellent examples of artistic work, and very attractive on the person wearing them. One of the gals on our recent Fiji trip had some nice looking sea turtles across her back. My wife has said she would seriously consider getting a tattoo if some really spectacular thing happened on a dive, and it wouldn't bother me if she did.

One of my reasons for being reluctant to get a tattoo is that I am also a regular blood donor, and the rules are, no blood donations for one year after getting a tattoo. I'll just use different methods to remember how awesome it was to touch a tiger shark.

With ANY tattoo, though, the most important question anyone should ask before getting it is, "Is this something I am certain I want permanently inscribed on my body for the rest of my life?" I'm not implying the answer, but I do know a lot of people that decided a few years later that they regretted their choice in tattoo design.
