I'm traveling to Cozumel for the first time in a couple of weeks :D . I'm hoping to shore dive in the afternoons. Is solo diving generally accepted there? If it is I'd take a pony, otherwise I won't bother.

Thanks,
N.

I did many solo dives from Caribe Blu on my last trip, without so much as a second glance from the dive OP.

I second that. Don't know if it's because they knew I was competent or just because it's not a big deal.

have a great time!! Those were some of the best critter dives of our whole stay...

If you are going to be solo both topside and in the water, then I highly recommend Scuba Club Cozumel. It's a real nice atmosphere topside for a solo traveler -- kind of like a liveaboard.

They didn't have any objection to me doing solo dives, day or night.

With the depth being only 25' or so, I didn't bother with a pony.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear...since that's where I'm staying. :thumb:

Thanks a lot,
N.
Actually all I got while I was gearing up for my first solo dive the day I arrived was a little lusting after my Halcyon BP/Wings .

If you are only shore diving, solo, then leave the pony at home. Depths off shore run about 20 feet. You have to go waaay out to get much deeper. If you get into trouble, stand up!

I've done solo at Casa Del Mar's beach. The dive shop had no problem with it. Nice relaxing time to critter watch and check weights before hitting the reefs.

Good point. If the shore diving is no more than 30 feet I won't bother with the extra bottle.

At most of the hotels, the water is about 10 feet deep at the shore, and gradually slopes off to 50 or 60 feet at the top of the wall. It is possible to dive the wall from shore, though it's kind of a long swim and you'd best stay down all the way out and back in because of boat traffic. I wouldn't do it solo, but YMMV.
