That's the advantage to being both a diver and a surfer; when conditions are bad for one, they might be good for the other. I rarely make an entry in significant surf, but I make a lot of exits in it; it seems that an hour of lobster diving adds three feet to the surf height whenever I go out. I may stride in in a manly, erect position, but I usually end up crawling out.

Fins on or off depends on the beach. It's easier to get knocked down in the surf with your fins on, but it's also easier to lose a fin when trying to don them in the surf zone.
