Not practical as well as no other boats nearby. All the day boats had gone home. (This all happened around 5:30PM. Sunset was around 5:45PM.) Required immediate action.Was it ever discussed getting the passengers onto another boat before attempting the rescue? I dove out there earlier this year and there were usually a few other dive boats, skiffs or liveaboards, in sight.

^^This!6. First rule of rescue: Don't make yourself a victim. Your solution of snorkeling to them, let alone with buoyant life jackets in 5-7' breaking surf, likely would have gotten you injured or even killed. This was not as easy a situation as you seem to be thinking it was.
