My sister and I are thinking about a family vacation with spouses and kids [teen and 21] -- some of us dive, some of us golf, some of us play tennis. All of us want good food and nice accommodations. The divers want small dive op. any suggestions for a way to please all?

we'd be going over Thanksgiving.

thanks in advance

The Dominican Republic if you want something in the Caribbean. At least 6 golf courses including Punta Cana. Barbados also has at least 6 courses. Both are supposed to have good diving also. Barbados is on my short list.

Next would be the 2-1/2 courses on St. Croix. With good diving on the northside and fairly easy to get to. I've read that there's some crime there though.

Most of the specific dive destinations (Cayman, Curacao, Turks/Caicos, St Maarten) that I know of generally only have one or maybe two golf courses. I've looked since I do both. There's the Four Seasons on Nevis but they just have the Trent Jones II course.

Don't know about Tennis anywhere...

Maui or Kaui are options to consider outside the Caribbean. Any of the four main islands have multiple courses. I've seen lots of tennis courts on Maui...

How many golf courses do you need?

We just got back from Providenciales. The resort we stayed at was across the street from what looked like a very nice golf course. The resort was Ocean Club. The dive op was Provo Turtle Divers. Ocean Club has two locations about a mile apart from each other. Ocean Club (east) and Ocean Club West. Ocean Club (east) is the one across from the golf course. Both Ocean Club resorts have tennis courts.

Lastly, contrary to what the previous poster said....Punta Cana is NOT a dive destination. Do a search on these boards and you'll find that to be the common opinion.

btw, this thread 2 months old...and lots of subsequent posts were lost in the "crash".

I was responding to your comment that PC had good diving, it doesn't. As to the crash, I'm not a daily poster on SB and was not aware there was one.

As to the thread being two months old, it's not ancient and decisions may not have been made yet for Thanksgiving.

we haven't made final decisions for Turkey weekend yet, and even if we don't go to the tropics this time, all info is welcome, as we will be facing this issue with our family for years to come.

Aruba has decent diving and a beautiful course (tierra del sol) used for the Champions tour. Great beaches, nice airport, predictable weather, no hurricanes, nice casinos and flights are reasonably priced. Fairly windy, but it keeps things cool and bugs next to non-existent.

Somewhere a bit different if you are Carribean-ed out, would be Cabo San Lucas, great desert scenery. 7 or 8 stunning golf courses (I was impressed and I dont even play golf) and some kick *** diving (seals, humbolt squid, waterfals of sand) and a great selection of excelent hotels.
