I live in Kyle, and some of our founders are in Austin. Anytime we go out, we'll let y'all know. Sometimes we'll be diving, other times, the club will be putting on "Two Week Tweaks", which is where every two weeks, we schedule a paid event where 2-4 people can come and get a short discussion on the philosophy, the gear configuration, "why" we do what we do. Then we "tweak" their gear to be more philosophy-compliant, (but nothing radical, unless they ask), and then we all do a half-day or so of diving with the group, focusing on team, buoyancy and trim.

So either for fun, or for a "Tweak dive", we'll let y'all know.

I'm signed up to be the or one of the guinea pigs...uh, I mean beta testers for the first "Tweak" class. LOL, j/k 50Fathom, I know the class will be great and I'll provide the requested constructive criticism from my limited knowledge of the system. ;)

Actually, the Tweaks will be different than the "Precision Buoyancy" class. That's two full days, including lecture, gear modification, video feedback, and a mix of pool and OW dives. You said you might be digging the full class.

The tweaks are about 3-4 hours at a local lake, about one hour of lecture/gear tweaks, then 2-3 hours of actual diving. Cost will be different too.

Ahhh, I see! I didn't realize that we were talking about two different classes.

That said, I'm signed up for the "Precision Buoyancy" beta testing class. :)

Edit: Well I stand corrected! I just went back and read through a myriad of PM's between 50 and I and he did mention offering both classes. Doh, I must have been half-asleep reading it. :)

It's cool. We are just trying to make better divers. Tweaks, classes, it's all good. We want to spread the word and get people into this, so whatever we gotta do.

Cyprian and I have been joining forces lately and we are hoping to help shoulder all of this up here, GUE is a common focus along with conservation. I have personally put aside all of my other hobbies in order to focus my efforts/attention on diving and I hope to help ignite the same level of interest and passion in others as well. If we are going to do this we might as well do it well or go down trying.

I am starting to get excited about all of this. Keep it coming folks!

Thanks for starting this thread, Cyprian--I think it is a great idea!

I live in Lewisville, and could meet just about anywhere in the DFW area.

I'm a PADI MSD, and own a drysuit, so I'm a year-around diver, and would love to find others who think diving in 50 degree water is a blast! :)

Bryan,

Welcome, I'm glad you joined the thread. I was just out playing in my dry suit this weekend, granted the water temp was 54-56. That said, the lowest water temp that I've been in is 46 degrees and I was never cold on 3 dives that day. So I'll be more than happy to dive under 50 water with ya sometime.

Keep an eye on this thread and we will get our dive club together. Regardless, once a date has been set, I will PM each member that has posted an interest here.

That gives me an idea.....which will follow in the next post.

Fellow divers interested in our club, please PM me your email addresses. Some email addresses I already have, of course. Any other person interested that is following the thread but doesn't care to post, or is not a member of Scubaboard, I will provide my email again below.

I realize that some do not visit SB daily so I want to keep in touch with all. Once we get a definitive date, time and place set, I will PM and email every one that has responded and shown interest.

Thanks again and safe dives,

Cyp

Please do not post your email in the open forum, or use the formula I have above. If you post it openly, you are just asking for spam. Thanks.

Just a small update for today to keep the ball rolling:

Tejasmtb and I plan to have an informal lunch meeting in or around Denton sometime mid-week to discuss various ideas and options. We will be primarily focusing on our first full club meeting. While it is understood that the first meeting will include introductions amongst the members, we do not want it to simply be just "Hi, my name is..." and that's it. We want to keep it semi-formulaic in that we will have an order of discussion planned. As an example:

1. Intros
2. Dive club/group name
3. Possible meeting locations, dates, times
4. Diving topics of interest
5. Diving areas of interest
6. Ideas for speakers
7. Election to go non-profit (I have setup a non-profit before, but I'd love to hear from other individuals in the business world who are familiar with non-profit organizations).
8. Website (I have designed them in the past, but would have to readjust to latest design tools. That said, we might have a current web designer out there who wants to join and wouldn't mind helping).

Etc, etc, etc.

I'll stop there as it is just a list I threw together in a few seconds to give everyone an idea of what we are working on. So the dive club continues....I've gotten a couple of emails/PM's from interested parties, but I'm still missing a few email addresses.

To those I have yet to respond to, I promise to do that tonight. It's been a typical hectic Monday for me.

Safe dives,

Cyp

What he ^^^ said!

This is everyones chance to speak up about locations for future meetings so throw them out there.

Hopefully Cyp and I will have a lot more ironed out after our lunch discussion but we would love to hear other ideas, pointers, warnings, suggestions in regards to what he has listed or maybe something he didn't. I for one hope to throw together the first meeting sometime next month (March). I am getting excited about this and I hope to see more traffic in here over the coming weeks. Feel free to suggest other areas we should target and resources we should use to help muster more interest in the group.

Thanks,

Tejas
