BOYNTON BEACH -- A diver hired by the city to retrieve golf balls from a lake was attacked by a 9-foot alligator that bit the man's arm.

The alligator apparently bit his air tank and tried to pull him under the water. he grabbed a utility knife strapped to his dive suit and tried to stab the animal. That's when it bit his arm.

He was treated at a hospital for injuries similar to a dog bite

Glad he's ok !

When our ship pulled into Darwin one of the divers asked the pilot if sharks were a problem. "No worries mate, the salt water crocs eat them" he replied with a grin.

Good thing he was making those big bucks retrieving golf balls. I've managed to do lots of strange diving, but diving in a pesticide/snake and/or gator-infested murk pond is not one of them.

yea, those people living on the golf courses in Florida gotta watch the toddlers in thier back yards.

Now that's what I call a Water Hazard. He probably had one of those little girly knifes instead of a big honking dive knife. If he was DIR he would have had to stab it with his shears.

If he was DIR, he could have strangled it with his long hose.
ROFL!
the gator would never see him anyway because he'd be all black

Here at the University of Florida, we have had all kinds of "comical" incidents. Students walking their froo-froo dogs too close to Lake Alice, (the campus lake infested with big boys), and retrieved a snipped leash. One case a few years ago, where the family housing unit nearby had a large gator on the floor of the laundry room soaking up the heat from the laundry dryers. They have removed them from Family housing's pool many times, and even had traffic stop on a major highway through town when a large gator walked across the median and decided to plop down and watch traffic. He would hiss and snap at cars as they passed.
I worked on an alligator farm in my teens. I learned more than I EVER wanted to know during that time. Jurassic park had NOTHING on the events there! A 16 foot bull flipping a jeep over and dragging one of the workers into the water. Fortunately the worker only had a dislocated knee as his worst injury afterwards. During gator mating season, (rut) you BETTER carry something other than warhammer gator repellent if you dive FW.
