I vacationed once in Chicago, noticed it didn't make the list.

Fortunately, everyone can choose their own destination, we don't have to defend our own favorite

It sounds like somebody's deliberately sending a message. At a minimum they're willing to make homicidal threat displays in (even deliberately exploiting?) tourist areas, so the presence of tourists is not a deterrent. At worse, I wonder if the intent is to imply a willingness to take violence to those areas. It's then a matter of escalation whether a tourist is targeted.

A big issue is this thread isn't just about a diver making personal risk/reward assessments; he's going to take his family there. 2 Minor kids. There are places I'm willing to go, fewer places I'm willing to take my wife, and fewer still I'll take my wife and daughter. Plus he's going off diving, not with them all the time.

    Richard.

The PBS segment on Acapulco was on tonight, not much of a tourist promotion piece.

I live on the Big Island of Hawaii ... I recommend it for both diving and surface activities.

I'm headed there in December. Any recommendations for a dive operator (likely just 1 day 2 tanks). Thanks.

    How about Bonaire?

You and the family can snorkel, windsurf, hike in the large National Park, explore the less-populated areas on a bike; the Lac Bay area, and south areas of the island, for example, explore the towns, kayaking, bicycling in the National Park, swimming in the ocean, beach picnic on Klein Bonaire, visit the Donkey Sanctuary, go horseback riding, visit the Flamingos, visit the cave system on the North-East side of the Island.

Oh, yeah...They also have some scuba diving there, too. :)

Costa Rica is nice. It has some good diving, beautiful beaches, and many spectacular tours.

    Tours in Guanacaste

We did a tour with Mardigi and can't say enough good things about them.
