We are thinking about trying either Casa Mexicana, or renting a home about 3 blocks behind Chadraui....does anybody know where the nearest dive pier is from either of these locations, for pickup by our dive operator? In the past, we have stayed at either Hotel Coz, or Fiesta Americana..wanted to try a new place. Any input?! Thanks!!

Gdog- We stayed at the Casa Mexicana in Dec. of 2005, just after Wilma. BlueXTsea picked us up at the dock right across the street from Casa Mexicana and north about a half a block. It was VERY convenient, we loved it. I don't know whether that was an extenuating circumstance due to the hurricane, but you no doubt will get the best info by calling or emailing your dive op. Sometimes they want you to cover the cost of getting yourself to the Caleta rather than burning the fuel to come North to get you and then heading back South to dive.
I'm pretty sure that not all dive ops use the same piers, some are private and some cost money to use.

There are people on her that know FAR more about it than I do, they'll be along soon to answer your question more definitively.

Jayjoans is right...that will be completely dependent on your dive operator as to how far north they can/will come to pick you up.

Only a few operations use the downtown pier, because as jj said, it's not free and it burns alot more fuel to pick-up downtown.

Barracuda Pier is a couple hundred yards south from CM. If you go with Dive Paradise, they have equipment lockers right there that you can use for free so you don't have to schlep your equipment anywhere. Barracuda Pier is also used by other operators as well. CN

But...does anybody know of a dock south of Barracuda? thought there was one by that little breakfast shop......cant remember the name. anybody?
Do you mean Jeannie's Waffle House?? I believe Cozumel Equalizers Dive Shop is right there .... or was. Don't know if it still is after the hurricanes ....

Ok thanks....wasnt sure where it was in relationship to the harbor. Will check with dive shop.

When you say the harbor, I am assuming you mean the marina. The entire channel is considered the harbor/port.

There is not a pier directly south of Barracuda. The closest ones would be El Cantil and Cozumel Palace, but if you're not staying there...you won't be allowed access. The next iis Hotel Cozumel...again, no access if not staying there.

Caribe Blu...have to be staying there.

Villa Blanca pier - owned by Dive Paradise. If not diving with Dive Paradise, they charge a $2 fee...rightfully so since they rebuilt it after the hurricane.

Basically, if you're staiying town or at a rental villa back in town, your options for pick-up will be the downtown pier if your dive op picks-up there, the Barracuda if you can sneak (although this is supposed to be exclusively for Dive Paradise clients or guests of the hotel), or the caleta (marina.)

As mentioned before, this is only a question that can REALLY be answered by your dive op.
