Great for doing paperwork on the surface though!!

Best use I found for it so far was reading my Bible late at night without disurbing others on the dive boat.....

Today I was in a DIR dive shop and saw a bunch of them on display for $85 apiece in the corner with the snorkels and split fins.....

To continue the religious similie that others are so found of when talking about DIR.... it was kinda like a church selling booze in the foyer....

UP,
The extra neg buoyancy of the larger canister worked out well for me. Burn time is 330 min ( need to do multiple cave dives/day next week). My wife has the 10 w and while the two are compatable for signaling, without doubt, the 18w puts out more light.

That's the ticket.... whatever works best.... and the bonus is that your wife's 10w will work with your 18w for signalling.... gotta love this stuff!

I am sure that the color difference between the 10w and the 18w was conincidental but it is (IMO) a happy accident.

My comment wasn't meant to be a counter point to yours but to show the compatibility of the lights as well as the differences.

In our area beam penetration is the key and massive burn time is not a necessity... cold water limits dive times.

In your case the extra illumination and especially the extra burn time are very important.

UP,
No worry, counterpoint or not, I find your views useful as I'm sure others do.

I and My buddy both dive Halcyon Pro 14 18w HID along with 2 Scout backups. As do all of the group I dive with.

Why? I think U.P. said it all best earlier in this thread. He pretty much summed it all up.
