EE Scouts for back up
Want EE Pro4 HID... One of these days...

Big T

Main Light:
UK Sunlight C-8: cheap (less than $55 mail order) so if I loose it in the bottom muck of NJ, it won't be the end of the world. A canister light would be nice but too expensive when I still need to buy a drysuit and tanks.

Backup Light:
Ikelite PCa: small and very bright

Halcyon pro14 18w hid primary. 1 halcyon backup and one sl4. I was going to get the smaller hid but they couldn't get it to me in time so I got the monster. Now I'm glad I did.

I have a couple for special purpose. One is an Ikelite mini C light for lobster and abalone. The other is a Pelican Brite Lite 5000 for emergency, freeing up a stuck anchor at night.

I have a third light which hasn't been used for 20 years. It is a wreck light for the Chesapeake Bay. The light head and waist mounted battery case are made of 1/4" cast aluminum. They are connected by a coiled line. The bulb is a sealed, 3 3/8", 100 watt incadescent lamp with fog pattern. The battery is a 9Ah lead acid motorcycle type.

I carry a couple of small double A lights. I don't do much night diving and anything I do thats low viz alight won't do any good except to see guages or a compass.

I was trying to talk Shane into getting some 18wHID light heads for our Pro4 canisters and he just didn't see the necessity....

Then I went diving with another quy who had the 18wHID and my 10wHID was not quite as big a beam but the blue/white color punched through the gloom just as well and our beams were quite compatible for signalling.... his 18w. did not wash out my 10w....

Now I'm glad I didn't.

I've also got an LED as backup. When I bought it I thought it would be great. Big mistake. As you said, it's really bright, but very diffuse in it's light pattern. I wouldn't like to get caught with it in a situation that needed any distance signalling. It just would not work. Great for doing paperwork on the surface though!!
