I was just wondering what dive lights everyone was using as primary and back-up lights, and why you chose what you chose?

I use a UK Sunlight C8 primary and a UK SL4 back up. I like the dual bulbs in the C8, if one goes out you just flip the switch and the other one fires up! I carry the SL4 even on daytime dives for looking into and under rocks and stuff. Both are flouresent Green of course.

I carry a diverite MLS Mr16 cannister light mainly because they are affordable and have lots of light and bulbs are inexpensive.

Want HID but can't afford it... For back up I have two UK mini Q 40's but will be replacing them with the Halcyon Scout back up lights..:)

I use an EE (extremely expensive) PRO 14/ 50 watt halogen cannister light with either princeton tec 40 or a light a friend made like the EE Scout as backup. These are carried on all dives. My girlfriend uses an AUL spectrum 14/ 50 watt halogen cannister light with princeton tec 40's backups. Will upgrade to HID eventually.

I've got a Princeton Tec Shockwave 12W halogen for my primary, running Ni-MH batteries, and 2 Delrin backup lights similar to the Halcyon Scout, that I bought off eBay much cheaper than a genuine Scout. Also go a Princeton Tec 40 as a loaner light to buddies (who never seem to own lights).

My primary is a Princeton Tec 400 with 4 C-cells. It's small enough to keep in a pocket yet bright enough to see into/under spaces. My back-up is an Ikelite PCa with 6 AAs. I really prefer 1/2 used batteries so it's not so bright.

One of my pet peeves is super bright lights on a reef, especially at night. They scare the fish and creatures for one thing and will blind you when you are invariably hit in the face with its beam. The night creatures that we go down to see are nocturnal, they prefer the dark! When these landing zone lights hit the reef, everything scurries for cover. And it's not uncommon for them to be blinded and a larger fish, who is following you just outside your beam of light, will dart in and have a snack. And if you show up to 'help me' take a picture by spotlighting the subject for me, I won't waste the shot because your big honkin' light has just washed out everything in the photo.

Just my 2¢

I use an Aqualung Lumen-4 or 6 "D" cell light. They do not have a "hot" center light pattern. They have a large, soft, light pattern that noctural creatures seem to appreciate. And they were 12 and 16 bucks each at Diveinn. I have a bunch of other lights but these are the ones I prefer to use.

I carry a PCa at all times in my BC pocket. Perfect for daytime use and as a backup at night. At night my primary is a 3 C- cell Hubbellite, also sold as the Pelican Super Sabre. This gives all the light I've ever needed without bothering everyone else in the area and is very small and light. Each of these is only about $25 or so. Cheers, Moxie

I like the PC-Lite just fine. Last week 3 people I was diving with had their more expensive lights flood, and the PC worked great.

I sue a Extreme Exposure 14AH/18Watt HID set up as my Primary and I have two EE Scout lights as back ups.
