I figure a knife with a serrated edge is a workhorse that will cut through anything--fishing line, rope, BC webbing, etc.
Yes, it will IF you have one seized end on that line.

There is nothing more annoying than free-floating algae covered nylon rope, line, or filament. A knife is nearly useless. A cheap little razor blade cutter will bite and cut.

Which is why I also carry the Eezycut Trilobite. I still think the knife is the most versatile all-around cutting tool, but I agree it can't cut everything equally well in every situation.

I carry both a knife (which, due to the recommendations here, is about to be replaced by a Trilobyte Cutter) and a pair of titanium shears. The one situation I came across where the shears were particularly effective was finding a string of party balloons that some asshat had attached to an outcrop of coral with plastic zipties. I was just able to get the point of the shear into the void at the ziptie connector to snap the plastic strap. Not sure I could have accomplished that with a knife without further harm to the coral.
Very interesting. Gee, what kind of a-hole would do that with the balloons?

I have a Aqualung Squeeze tool (SS), that holds up well. I have a Trilobyte/EEZYCUT mounted to my Shearwater. They are both small. I find those two items have taken care of all issues I've come across. But I'm sure there are others that would say that is insufficient based on their experience.

Can you post a pic of how you mounted your TB to your SW?

Why not both in one? I have the Mini Fogcutter dive knife attached to my BC.

The only cutter I have actually used is my Trilobyte. I got snagged by some heavy monofilament on a wreck night dive. The Triobyte Eezycut from my waist strap made quick work of it and I was on my way. I also carry a titanium knife. I used to carry shears but quit carrying them.

What do you do with your knife (or what would you use it for)?

I stab and kill Lionfish with it after I have speared them. It would be difficult to do this with my Trilobyte cutter :) I suppose I might use the knife if the diameter of the entanglement was too big for the Trilobyte? My knife has both a smooth and a serrated blade.
