Dee,

Thanks for the DEPP link. I've heard really good things about them covering scuba stuff that was stolen.

I think I'll give 'em a try.

Regarding the DAN insurance plan --

I believe the "50 miles from home" benefit restriction only applies to non-diving accidents. For diving accident-related medical care, there is no such restriction.

Hi Dee

Thanks for your comment. My friend was on his way to a dive weekend. Whether that makes any difference at all, I don't know.
I was reading the PADI brochure and it mentioned "loss of equipment". Now, just what does that mean? At this time I don't know. Does it mean loosing your equipment while diving, by theft, loss of use? What?

I haven't read DAN's brochure at this point.

The PADI also covers some non diving accidents outside of home country. What does this mean?

Anyone have any experience testing their insurance coverage?

Thanks for all of your input.

Terry

Terry,

I don't think being on the way to a dive weekend qualifies him for coverage. It would still be an auto accident, no matter where his destination was.

I don't have PADI's coverage but coverage outside your home country would mean anywhere outside the continental United States.

Doc V's article in Undercurrent should answer your questions. If not, I'm sure he'll be glad to clarify things for you.

I've been lucky not to have to use my DAN coverage but I have friends who have. Several had DCS hits in Mexico and DAN covered almost every expense involved, either by reimbursing them or by payig directly.

Again, I have no personal experience with DAN but they are who I choose to be covered by.

As always, one never know till one asks.

I did read Dr. V's articles you lead me to. Like with anything else, a person has to make their best call and see what happens if the need arises. Some is definately better then none.

Thanks

Terry
