I'm very excited that so many people will be coming! The 6 of us that were originally planning on going will be there - we're bringing the boogie boards, too, in case the waves are too big to dive. But, the model I saw didn't look too bad, so it shouldn't be a problem. The Laguna Sea Sports website says 2 feet or so, which is doable, and CDM usually has less surf than Shaw's.
See you all there!

I just checked the hurricane center and it's moving northwest and projected to move west (away from us) from here on out. If I can decode the weatherguy lingo, looks like it's decreased to 50 knot winds. That ain't nuthin.

Just returned from Catalina, and there was no sign of any swells other than a little from the NW. Smooth sailing all the way back.

May our dive tomorrow be even half as good as it was in Catalina today. OOoo La La !!!

By the way, was it Melvin who said that most folks get bent in their first 12 or 13 dives? Whew, I'm out of the woods. Did #13 today. Sweet.

Jim- good to meet you guys at the Dive Park yesterday. Sorry we didn't get a chance to talk more. Don't know why... I only did two short dives all day!

Doc

I went to Crescent this morning and decided not to dive as there were 6' waves breaking pretty consistently and growing larger by the set. Hope you guys don't get the same thing tomorrow.

Thanks, Robert. We saw the same thing at Corona Del Mar this morning. Though Sapphire called Laguna Sea & Sports this morning while we were looking at 8 footers roll in, and, suprisingly, they said they were seening 2-3 in Laguna.

This mornings conditions based on reports from the below numbers.
The swell model looks good with 1-2 foot swells.

Malibu is reporting at 0700 hrs glassy conditions and no sign of the hurricane swells.

Newport Beach at 0700 hrs, is reporting beach closed from Santa Ana River to 52nd Street due to sewage spill. Surf at 10 seconds and 4-6 foot with the occasional 8 foot wave. 10-15 foot visibility.

Laguna, Beach at 1:00 P.M. hrs is Yellow Flag and CLOSED to SCUBA yesterday and today due to hurricane generated waves of 4-6 feet. Like 4 feet is big or somthing. I dove yesterday in 3-5 foot waves with no problem.

Checking, nope, still don’t see it on the swell model. Still showing 1-2 foot swells which would generate 2-4 foot waves or so.

The reports are normally updated at 12-1:00 p.m.

So Jim, the plan is tomorrow we meet at 06:30 and check conditions, if it is not good, we all go to breakfast and have fun, if it is good, we go diving and have more fun.

See you there tomorrow Jim. Glad you made it through the first 12 dives.

Melvin, robertphillips warned us that we should probably get to Crescent Bay at 6:00 or 6:30 am tomorrow due to the Labor Day parking situation. So I'll be there around 6:00, or maybe before. Sessions and his buddy will be there, as will ScotM, and maybe some folks we met at Corona Del Mar this morning. Also maybe Jef from Sandeaters. Looks like the hurricane swells are a day late, so I'm hoping they'll die down later this afternoon.

Wow!! The surf was high at Corona Del Mar... a few intrepid members of our group went out snorkeling and saw... not much. Plus they had to brave the waves and rip tide on the way back in. It wasn't even a very good day to take the boogie board out, with the way the waves were breaking. So we played in the water, ate lunch, and watched the crowds of Labor Day beachgoers roll in...

According to the lifeguard I talked to today, they expect the swell to last through tomorrow as well. I am heading down to San Diego, where AndrewJD reported good conditions this morning. I can't waste two perfectly good tanks full of air and a trunk full of scuba gear all packed and ready to go, can I??

Thanks to SAF_25 for trying to get us together, AND for bringing all the yummy sandwich fixings !!

We hung out at Corona Del Mar until about 1:00 or so. The waves got bigger and harder throughout the morning. By late morning, the rescue boat was patrolling continuously and the lifeguards weren't letting anyone without fins go past the breakers. A few of us got in a little skin diving before things got too bad.

I'll be at Crescent Bay at 6:00, as will Randy and Sylvia from this moring. Where are you all planning to meet?

I'll probably park along Crescent Bay Dr., as close to the steps as possible, unless I can find a spot on Cliff Dr.
