If I ever become "one of those divers" the only thing I will demand is that they use Charmin ultra soft.

Just here to say for the last time, aloe-infused Charmin is not DIR. The World Recreational Bum-wiping Association even ruled in that direction.

I swear I read that twice as “aloe – infused Chairman“. And I thought, “who in the world wants to infuse Pete with aloe, and what exactly do they want to do with him?“

I’m not at all sure I want the answer to any of those questions.

ETA: In fact, I am certain I do not want the answer to those questions. :-)

I assume you take your taxes to a Tax Preparer and not a CPA?
Nope. S-corp with employees, both W-2 and 1099. I talk with my CPA more months than not. Not sure it matters for the comparison I was making...

It is intriguing.

You live in the land of unlimited opportunities and freedom.

You do not wish to be regulated or patronized

You think medical examination for diving is not needed.

But you wonder why you often have to dive with a bunch of morons who are clearly to stupid to do it safely?!

Why is that?

because they have the freedom to be as big of a moron as they want.

The good news is that single tanks and especially on Nitrox most divers who are "not into the details of it" will blow through their air long before DCS becomes a problem on most dives though Cozumel has the depth to do it if you have the gas time ;) to get bent.

This is exactly it. They don't have the gas to blow through their NDL.

Freedom comes with many price tags and responsibilities. Like having freedom of speech means having to hear things you do not like or agree with, freedom to dive means you have to tolerate other’s diving habits.

Complaining about it is fine and natural. Trying to force someone to dive ‘your way’ isn’t. No one here is forcing anyone to comply or trying to stop anyone from diving. Just pointing out frustration and concern that we see people putting themselves and others in danger.

As a dive professional, I instruct people on safe diving practices and want everyone to safely enjoy our sport. I will put myself at risk to assist in an emergency. I hope that people dive safely so those emergencies that are avoidable don’t happen.

Question was: Why do you wonder about that?
because if someone is supposedly OW trained to standards they should know better and I would hope that their instruction instilled this into them, at least in my way of thinking.
Why not just disconnect your speedometer and your gas gauge in your car and just go driving? Who cares?
Also, to me it's a little appalling that operators allow this to go on and enable such behaviour when they should be demanding that customers have all the necessary equipment and know how to use it. It would seem to me that they are putting themselves at risk just for a few extra bucks.
But like some said, if it ain't broke don't fix it, until it breaks. But apparently nobody ever thinks or cares about that.
Now that I know more about how these foreign operators work I'll do my best just to avoid those places.
This thread has enlightened me so much!

I think PADI or other agencies should offer an online 'quick refresher' type thing - and not charge $150. Either free or $10-20 and have it be a 15 min course, kind of a commonly forgot things... I mean things like "check your ndl time," and "Don't forget to do your checks before jumping in." None of it is rocket science, but I think even people who've gone a single year or less without diving could forget, yet not need a whole entire 're-activate' cash grab.
