j valves, huh…. Manifolded 100s with the isolator closed. Breathe one empty, open the isolator, let them equalize and then close the valve. For blackout diving when you can’t see a ln SPG even if you had one.

Buddy/wife and I had to pick our jaws off the deck...
That surprises me none at all. Belize, Mexico....there are no repercussions to those operators if they screw the pooch and get you bent or worse.

Man that was something! There was an old guy that called himself Santa showing everyone an old cert card and said he hadn't dove in 25 years. Then a bunch of other divers that had certified earlier in the week. We were the only 2 hanging out at the lip (per the dive plan) after coming up for a while. The rest were up under the boat hanging around the narco line.

Scariest I was on was at the Blue Hole from Belize. They explicitly told folks ignore your computer as it may go into deco. They do it all of the time and its no problem. Buddy/wife and I had to pick our jaws off the deck...
I would have to agree with this post. I did the Blue Hole off the Belize Aggressor IV in April 2022. The dive was on 32% nitrox and my Teric was on a GF high of 95. My NDL was 3 min at maximum depth and was 1 min at 12:00 of the dive. I was back to 15 feet at just over 20 minutes and spent over 10 min in the shallows. My surfacing GF was 48.

I believe all the divers were diving nitrox but am not absolutely sure about that. I would imagine that some of the divers exceeded their NDLs and had some deco on their computers. Not only was this a generally crappy dive, but the potential problems that could arise are frightening. Some of the divers were obviously very uncomfortable and anxious on the dive.

Depth is in white, NDL in red, GF99 in orange. My transmitter failed earlier on this trip due to the over pressure valve, so tank pressure/SAC are not displayed. I have a backup SPG and had 1700 psi left in my AL80.

Funny I was only thinking about this topic yesterday on a dive charter, 2 DMs were to guide 2 groups around a well know site in this area ,
I am the only one going unguided , I get talking to a guy [you can pick ex military] and find out he is a retired Combat Engineer from the Australian Army that took up diving after leaving the Army.
I say 'you want to dive with me?', sure, he says, how about you lead the dive as you have dived it before I say? [ Always guided before], the boat goes quiet.
The skipper filling out the paperwork says "about time Sam", I find out he had been trained by this dive operation.
He did a good job, my only intervention was to signal 'please slow down, take your time', I also noted he was well trained [this time by a civilian dive instructor].
Given the opportunity and confidence.......you know the rest.

My reasoning was , if he can deal with IEDs as a Combat Engineer this is 'a piece of cake'.

And I signed him up to this site as well.
Say 'Hi' Sam' under this : Introductions & Greets

I beat you like a red headed stepchild!!!

Within the last year or two I have dove without a bladder. It's really not that hard or remarkable. I only use mine to float effortlessly on the surface.

Many of the first Scuba instructors were former demolition divers. I attribute the idea of first learning on the knees to these guys. Luckily, we can evolve.

But comes back out of deco during the long stop before finally returning to the boat.

My computer has never gone into deco on that dive but others have (looking at you, Suunto).
