You doing this as a shore dive? A couple of us just discussed this - see the "Three Tables dive report" thread posted by ch0ppersrule.

Anyway, from what I can discern from the shorediving.com website, there are 2 possible entries - Haleiwa Beach Park and Haleiwa Alii Beach Park.

Couple weeks ago we tried to find it from Alii Beach Park, but we entered the water too close to the harbor and never found it. Apparently you have to enter the water further to the left, in front or next to the community center - the 2 story brown building. It's supposed to be a shallow wade out of about 75-100 yards, then it drops off.

We're going to try it again this coming Sunday morning, hopefully ch0ppersrule will be able to join and show us.

It's been a couple of decades(!) but I sort of remember going straight out from near the center of Alii Beach Park. Nearby was a pile of large stones just where the park grass and sand meet. It wasn't a very long swim; not more than 100yds. The trench was about 50yds across and seemed to be shallower toward the harbor. I caught it on a crummy day; max viz barely 30ft -- a little unnerving looking out at the deep murk, knowing that a fishing harbor and river mouth are nearby. I think the murk was caused by the wash-off from the bordering shelves. There wasn't much current but I heard it can get pretty strong.

I'll probably be up at Shark's Cove this Sat morning, helping another guy with some staff O-5's and 6's from D.C. getting in some sightseeing in between conferences -- I'm the designated buoy-boy, hauling around the float.

Are you talking about July 31st? If so, I can join you. What time? Let me know what type of vehicle you are in and I will let you know mine so we can spot each other. I am diving North Shore tomorrow.

To get to the trench, drive past both entrances to the boat harbor and go towards a bigger building that sits by itself (off to the right close to the water). There is a parking lot there and you can get in the water either in front of the building or go behind it (where the skateboard ramp is). It is very shallow about 30-50yds. out then drops to 90 ft. There is some pretty cool stuff there. Have fun.

Sending you a pm.

I'll be joining this group, too. -becky

I'm not sure if you mean Haleiwa Trench? I don't know the name of the car park but you have to park at the far end next to the building with the shower outside (it's past the boat harbour). You can walk over the grass and enter almost anywhere. Swim out about 50 yards or so then it just drops off. I did it as a night dive - the sleeping turtles were awesome.

OK so I got directions from a guy at Deep Eco who did his DM map on the trench. Y'alls driections sound right on according to him. Sadly the art festival was also going on so Sharks cove again it was....I have IDC pool stuff saturday but I think Sunday is open. Gotta check with the SO ya know?

IDC moved to Sunday AM But I should be good to go by noon. GF should be there from work by then too. Whos going? Im in a black Jeep.

I just pm'd you and asked if you drive a white jeep. Do you have dark hair and are tall? If so, I think I know who you are. If you are that person, you would know me by face, but probably not by name. The hubby and I take our tanks to IDH to fill them often. Anyways, after the tooth gets permanently fixed we can all go diving, for now it is just the 3-5 of you. Have fun.
