That could have been me. 6 foot and brown hair. Black and blue suit. IDC staff development instructor yelling at me a lot. Yup, that was me :-)

Wildcard-

We'll be at there at 8:00 a.m. - can't make it later in the day tomorrow, sorry. Place where I like to get my tanks from was closed today, place I ended up getting my tanks from has a strict 24 hr. return policy - so I've gotta get them back by 1 p.m.

I always like to explain to shops like that why Im now going else where, every time. If they want my money, they will work with me! If not, someone else will. Im going to guess the shop your talking about also has 12-6pm sunday hours? Thats why I go to Deep Eco now. They are open and they work with me.
If ya see a black jeep over there about noon, stop by and say Hi! If not, maybe next time.

At the shop I like to get my tanks from, they follow my old LDS' practice (they shut down earlier this year and the new shop bought a lot of their stock) of giving you until closing time the next day to return the tanks. I am at work Saturday mornings around 8, amd I like to pick up my tanks early Saturday before I get to work and return them Sunday afternoon. I've found that if I wait until I'm getting home on Saturday to pick up tanks, it is not uncommon for all of them have been rented already.

Anyway, for whatever reason this morning the shop was closed. The owner is the only employee so far (the shop just recently opened) - so I can understand if he was a bit late getting to the shop. Too bad I coudn't wait around for him to show up. By the time I called this afternoon to see if he had any tanks left, he had closed for the day.

I've asked Deep Ecology about what time they open on the weekends - something like 8:30 or so. However, I like to meet and get in the water around 8:00, so that doesn't really work for me.

They open at 8am...The shop your talking about I believe, he is out of town. His mother died. That was the story I got.

How was everyone's dive today at the trench? I was lucky enough to stay home and do some laundry and clean the house. Jealousy is a bad thing, so don't be hatin' (lol).

Oh, ok. Sorry to hear that. Anyway, when I called, I got the shop's answering machine, which gave the store hours. I think I heard the message say that on weekends they are open from 7 a.m. to noon. I recall at the grand opening they said closing times on weekends were at 5 - maybe this is a "temporary" thing until he can afford to hire some help. I hope so, because the closing at noon doesn't work for me, either.

The dives were pretty good - there was surf coming in between 2-3 feet, which made for tricky exits - there was a high "step" of sand you had to come up to exit the water, but all the wave action made the sand mushy, so you couldn't get a good footing.

We finally "found" the trench - and it was just a fraction of the surface swim we did a couple weeks ago looking for it. We saw an amazing amount of turtles - and they were HUGE. I had a neat little encounter with a small turtle - I turn around and see this little guy swimming *directly* at me, at eye level. Normally, they kind of veer off, but this one kept coming - we were just staring at each other. When it was about 3 feet from me, I decide that it didn't look like it was going to veer off, so I moved off to the side. The turtle went past me a bit, then turned and looked like he was going to swim towards me again. Swam forward a bit, then veered off. Other than the turtles, we didn't see too much other sea life, though. The water was pretty dirty, but got clearer the further left we headed.

Hey Wildcard - did you guys show up earlier than noon? I saw a black Jeep, but they were there early, before 9 - so I didn't think it was you. A group of 2 guys and a girl, also a blue Nissan (I think).

I dove this site with Cheryl on Sunday morning. I think we should seriously re-name this site: The Bunkhouse. I have never seen so many sleeping turtles and we didn't cover that much ground (we take our time). I would have to guess there were at least 20 of them (I'm not counting the return trip). And at least 3 were coffee table size, if not bigger.

As I was passing one of them, he lifted his flipper and then put it back down, as if waving to me. I waved back, of course. Cheryl, I think you looked back at me just as I was doing this, or just after. I forgot to mention it to you post dive. It was awesome. I nearly collided with the same small turtle that Cheryl did. This guy certainly took the view that we were in his way and had to move.

I'm definately bringing my camera to the Scuba Board get together.

But, other than that, the site reminded me a lot of Puget Sound. It was dark, pretty poor visability, and covered in silt. I even found myself unconsciously looking for wolf eel and giant pacific octopus. Some great spots for them. There wasn't that much other sea life down deep and that's why I dive. So on the 2nd dive, we stayed at 40 and above to see the reef fishes.

So, how about it? Let's refer to this as THE BUNKHOUSE.
