Having issues mounting a compass on a genesis 3.1.

No matter where I mounted on the body (rear, middle or all the way forward ) there is about 20° of magnetic drift.

Compass has to be a good 6 inches off the body of the DPV for the reading not be affected by magnetic fields of the DPV.

Anyone have success on mounting a compass to a genesis? Care to provide provide any insights or tips of how it was done?

Some dude made a folding compass post from pvc so plumbing and bungee?

Mumetal between the batteries (which have steel cases) and the outer tube is your solution. You can buy it in sheets slightly thicker than aluminum foil.

We have a laminated mu metal sheet that goes on top of the battery stack and shields of most of the effect of the 18650 cells. ...at least on my Sea Rover compasses that are no longer available. I only get a max of about 3deg of deviation when installed. Different compasses have different sensitivities, so could be compass brand dependent.

Also, if you have anything else mounted on the DPV, like a computer or camera, that may affect it as well.

Not a Genesis, but I solved this problem on my Suex using a Silva C58 compass (the boat version, not the kayak version). This compass has compensators, so with a little bit of work you can mount the compass to the scooter and the adjust the compass to compensate for the permanent magnetic fields.
