I realize this thread is two years old. Thought I would see if any progress has been made on the project. I would love some local DIR mentors. I have the gear and experience but I haven't tasted the Kool-Aid.

While there's no official mentoring project going on, it's happening all the time. There are plenty of divers I know of that are more than helpful and encouraging to anyone who's interested in improving their diving.

I'll PM you to help get you started!

P.S. once you've tasted the Kool-Aid, there's no turning back. :D

There are plenty of DIR divers in Monterey, and more it seems each month. We'll be at the breakwater tomorrow (Sun 13th) for some practice. A lot of people are more than willing to dive with people interested.

I'm not sure why so many people are bad mouthing BAUE on this thread, BAUE is a great organization, filled with passionate and helpful individuals.

You're right, there are certainly more and more DIR divers in Monterey and BAUE or Bay Area Underwater Explorers (BAUE Home Page) is an awesome group! As far as anyone bad mouthing it, well, what can we say, this is the internet, right? :D

What a generous idea!
