KISS. Keep an eye on it when you jump in the water and get on with life.
Keep an eye on it when you jump. Indeed. I've started clipping reel and SMB to a shoulder D-ring when I splash, then moving them to butt ring in the water. I've had the elastic bands on the SMB slip on entry and trailed a 6' orange tail for a few minutes before I noticed. Also, less likely to sit on them while waiting to splash.

Sometimes I hold it in my hand even.

But for real a pocket is the best move.

I guess there are many ways. I am not DIR and don't have a ton of experience with DSMB and spools. 2nd clip seems pretty simple and backups up spool detachment as well as bcd detachment of the 1st clip. Is there something bad about doing this ?

Its just more stuff. Not the end of the world.

Eventually it may procreate, mutate.............and finally, proceed to entangle the entire area.

I do a similar thing to what is presented in the video .....

1/ That loop he makes is YUGE!
2/ Put a small knot on the end, creating a longer leg in the larger loop

Load the SMB on the loop, stick that small loop through a hole and then clip the double ender.

Very little chance (I haven't had it self deploy this way, but many times other ways of the bolt snap directly to the spool) of the double ender coming off (it's attached freely to the spool via the line, not the hard plastic/metal/derlin), and is pre loaded.

The problem with that is it doesn't allow for the SMB and spool to be pre-assembled. Waste of time and increases your odds of dropping something.

Hold my beer!

Surely it's not DIR (how could an SMB be DIR, I mean, it comes from cave diving, why on earth are you gonna shoot an smb in a cave), but I'm not dead yet.
- the spool doesn't randomly unclip
- it holds the spool and smb together.
- it works for me, ie it doesn't float around very high nor dangles very low. (typically sits exactly between my legs, I clip it on my butt d-ring). It might look like it's very long and dangly ( :p :D ) but it's not really much more than just a clipped off smb (it adds around 2cm, but has the benefits that the spool pulls the smb down a bit, instead of having it float around)

I might still be alive because it's an H dsmb though, I don't know.

Reasons for me to not clip to the hole:
(not my videos)
I had seen some videos showing it's also feasible to get it come loose if you just put a loop through the hole and clip on it instead of using the secure-lock thingy.

And some pictures for those that didn't understand how it's done :p

I am with PfcAJ on this topic. I keep it simple with one clip. It's either in my pocket or in my D ring (at waist or butt). I always put my palm over it as I get into the water. Even with strong currents and negative entries, the system works well.
