Interesting. Hope this model fares better. For me, the Omega always breathed a little wet despite the coaxial design. I was glad to see how dry the 500e was. The second stage diaphragm is just a little different, although the valve is just the same as the Omega, as you said.

You're absolutely right, the first stage, although very lightweight, has a completely nonsensical port positioning. I can't say that it is something that I'll use again.

Do you know the source of the leaks in the seconds? If I were to guess, I would say it would be a servo valve spring weakening, or the valve pad taking a set on the servo. There's no reason that shouldn't have to be regularly replaced just like poppet seats.
 
This is interesting as I have the Signature regs and have never really noticed this problem before. I would have thought I would have as I am inverted often looking around on the reefs in all the nooks and crannies.

It's all a function of tuning. The issue we are discussing is "case geometry fault" which you can search for here on SB. Any time the exhaust valve is the highest point in the case (e.g. when you are inverted) air may bubble out if the pressure in the case is greater than ambient. That can happen when the reg is VERY lightly tuned, depending upon your breathing pattern. If you suck the valve open but don't pull that breath in, the exhaust valve may flutter and water may enter. Your next breath may be a touch wet.
When the exhaust valve is not highest, the slight differential in water pressure between the top and bottom of the case means that there is no place for air to escape that would lower the pressure inside the second stage enough to trigger the valve.
