Yeah, I personally love the Destin area as well... especially their floating snack-bar out in the shallow area near the bridge  .

And just as an aside for the EPIRBs I was looking at - here's a better link to some specific products.

Probably not that big of a deal, especially with a whistle, air-horn, or sausage, but still - it's good in case you get in a bad current and get way off-course by yourself or with your partner somewhere.

"Boys and their toys!" No, it could be a good idea in time. And it is possible that you could wish you had it on this trip. I'd hate to tell you "Don't," and then you need it. But you can add too many toys at once so as to compromise safety.

If you want to spend some money, get the Dive Alert horn; I carry it with the Sausage, Storm whistle (this one is louder than any other, I think), and 2 CDs glued back to back. That's a lot for you to add at once, though.

My next toy - when I just have to buy something, maybe be a strobe marker. :shades:

Stayed on the beach at the Holiday Inn Holidome. If you have a family, GREAT place. Rooms are large and have both an outside and indoor pool. As for the beach.... FREAKING AWESOME!!!!

I've stayed at the Holiday Inn several times.

It's actually one of the few hotels on the beach there. Most of the places are condos.

The Holiday Inn there is right on the beach and it's a great stretch of beach. But for what they charge a night, you can rent a 1 or 2 BR condo for the same price and have a beach view and full kitchen. Most of the rooms there (Holiday Inn) aren't beach views and are "in the tower". not that the rooms are bad or anything. It's your typical Holiday Inn when it comes to the room. Cheapeast I've stayed was about $85/night and highest was about $140/night. All for "non beach view" rooms. For the beach view rooms you pay a little more. For the "Beach Front" rooms which are in the side unit of the hotel closest to the beach you pay about $250/night. That's kinda high for a Holiday Inn, especially when I can rent a 2BR condo directly on the beach for that much.

Breakfast is good there also but have never eaten another meal there.

So it's not a bad place to stay at all but check out condo prices if you are going to be there for more than a night or two.
