Genesis:
The thing a lot of people miss is that it does NOT take much air to start it up. Overfilling it is dangerous as it will start to drag you.

So...is that why a certain not to be named technical course is instructing it's students in how to "hold down" the diver inflating the bag complete with photos, or alternately, how to "hold yourself down to the bottom" complete with photos?

Sigh.... yeah, I heard about that one. I still want to see it in print before I believe it though.

Genesis:
Be aware that if the idiot who wound the spool the last time (that'd be you, the user!) was less than careful a spool can be yanked up and out of reach VERY quickly by even a minor snag - this is the risk in letting it "spin" out of your hand.

It its a MAJOR snag and you're fingering it, you will have to let it go of course. But for a minor one, you'll lose the spool if you let it go and unwind outside of your control.
Very good point... vital really

It's on page 128, step #3, deploying the lift bag. The picture is in the pool and doesn't actually show anyone holding the "deployer" down. It's just in the text about having a team mate or your legs holding onto something to hold you down. I can't recall if the video showed anything additional or not. The pics in the book follow the video so well, that I'm inclined to think they are captures from the video, not seperate photo setups.

Wonder what kind of a shockwave a bursting bag sends out as it rockets to the surface ....

Uncle Pug:
There are some spools being made now with bigger holes but still not a good idea IMO.
Why is this not a good idea?
