I'm a Fish!
We are going up to Austin Sunday 11/5/06 and are looking for the deepest place we can find for an advanced Nitrox class. If anyone has been to Lake Travis or the Dam lately, can you let us know where we can find some deep water?

Thanks, Captain Randy and Sharon

I dive off of Windy Point and the deepest I have been there is 115 ffw. I think that Shaggie has been to around 125-130 ffw at that spot.

You can dive Windy Point as already mentioned and Mansfield Park. If you are looking to get to at least 100 feet you can dive up by the dam or dive off the nearside point of the cove.

Windy Point Public would probably be suffice, since you can get to the deeper stuff without going through the crap groves. I just got back from a dive this afternoon and the water's nice, but its rough getting out. Its about 5-7 foot viz, but opens up a bit as you go. We hit 75ish with no thermocline, and we were buzzing around the edge of the groves down there. Oh, and for some fun, around 44 feet there's a few good sets of grottos to hang out in and chatter your teeth towards the end of your dive.

Hopefully this gets to you in time. My dive buddy and I hit 137' in early October. We were at the scubapark at Mansfield and took a heading straight off the Cessna. Our deepest reading in late August was 144' in front of the sailboat, but the lake has dropped so much since then that I think you'd be doing good to hit the low 130's in either one of those spots. Pray for rain and good luck with the tech nitrox/deco class.

I've been told that the Cypress creek arm holds the deepest water in the lake. Of course you would need a boat and a depth finder to find it.

Thanks for the info. we went and did Windy Point Park so I could look at conditions there The overcast sky in addition the low vis made the decent pretty bad but it cleared up about 105ffw. We only hit 112ffw temp 68F but were still able to get some good training in.
