Other than that, if you don't want to give us your credentials to verify, then don't expect for us to allow you in the back room. I'm way OK with that. There are tons of things to talk about out here in the main areas!

I use my real name because I want people to know who's talking. It doesn't mean much otherwise, IMO.

Is it fair to the new diver that they don't riceive the same mailings from the agencies that I teach for that I do? They don't have a direct line to the agency training consultants that we do either. The really unfair part is that they aren't allowed on the IANTD discussion group, the PADI pro section of their web site and their not allowed to teach (agency sanctioned) classes.

How is it not fair?

I agree with Mike. Furthermore ,like Mike states, his name and credentials are on the IANTD website. I wish PADI would do the same so as I can find other instructors.

I have allways used my own name.Hiding behind a "handle" is an out right cop out.Real names, just like the way Techdiver used to be.

I am cracking up that people want to whine about an instructor/leadership only sub-forum. That's like men whining about not being allowed to use "The Ladies Room" and vise versa.

It is a great idea.

A place for Dive Professionals to trade hints, tips, suggestions... to ask for feedback or help from other Pros without having to worry about that bloody agency bashing BS rearing its ugly head.

Thanks, Scubaboard. You rock! :thumb:

P.S.: we are sworn not to reveal the secret handshake upon pain of death

even more instructors to Scubaboard! Which will be great for us all! :tease:

A little observation from a humble rescue diver. You may want to put a section on the board anyway even if the rest of us can't access it, just so new instructor/members can find the forum.

Just a thought:)

This doesnt seem to agree with the third requirement listed here:

If you are interested, we want to hear from you! Here are the "Instructor to Instructor" access requirements:

1) You must be a Scuba Instructor, Assistant Instructor, Divemaster or equivalent with a recognized agency.
2) In order to validate your credentials you will need to PM any moderator with your:
*Full name
*Contact phone number
*E-Mail address
*Agency & Instructor number
3) You must also add the correct information to the "Agency/Level/ID number" field in your user profile.

I dont mind having my credentials verified and I will gladly provide them to anyone who has a legitimate need for them, but I'm not particularily interested in publishing them in my profile.

Try and think of it this way ... your instructor ... yes your very own instructor .... MAY have an issue he or she would like to pass by others for opinions etc

Some of us are lucky and have instructors we respect that we can go talk to face to face - others may not.

Passing "What can I do about this xxxxx student" queries in public is not really an option - it possibly causes that instructor to appear weak in certain areas and undrmines student confidence - and the student under discussion could be identified - This is not a good situation

Even those of us who travel under false names are reconized by our students

Good instructors will always be checking themesleves and looking for ways to improve - bouncing questions off other instructors is a good way to do some self monitoring.

It is a shame people are opposed to this forum = it is allowing the people who teach you to improve their skills

for display in your profile... but you must ask for it. However, your full name and Instructor ID will be displayed within the forum. It's a matter of trust among professionals.

Seems reasonable.
