And I will have my DiveCon card in hand knocking on the door. :) My paperwork is on the way to SSI now. I am no longer a DiveCon in training as of this afternoon. I was also informed that I will be among the first choices if there is an AI needed for class by the store owner.

As they say, you can run but you can't hide. :)

Pete is going to try to sign on, but will not be able to verify instructors until Monday, October, 6th 2003. So please hang tight until then.
Thanks.
PS. If he can do it sooner, he will, but wanted those that are waiting to have an update.

Does anyone know ho to register and log into this new forum?
It was in the other thread that was referenced at the begining of this one. Here's how:

Here are the "Instructor to Instructor" access requirements:

1) You must be a Scuba Instructor, Assistant Instructor, Divemaster or equivalent with a recognized agency.
2) In order to validate your credentials you will need to PM any regulator with your:
*Full name
*Contact phone number
*E-Mail address
*Agency & Instructor number
3) You must also add the correct information to the "Agency/Level/ID number" field in your user profile.

Thanks for your help,

Have now been assigned a user-name and password, but am still clue-less as to how to log into this forum! Have been looking around the website but can't see the "entrance portal" so to speak.

Any help would be greatly appeciated.

Bob

and I actually became a member to be able to bounce things off my collegues.

So, message to Bob : like me, be patient and wait for your credentials to be checked. so I'll receive the PM message that'll grant me acces. Same goes for you.

In the meantime, I'll try and muddle through but I need all of you fellow pros :(

Well, g'day!

I'm new here, so it's undoubtedly my fault, but I can't see how to join this. Unless something's wrong with my browser, the links appear to be self-referential.

Help?

Disclaimer: Venting from a diver who could not get wet this weekend!

If you have a forum that “may” contain information, shared ideas and possible information that should not be construed as “go and do it advice” then why don’t you have interpreted levels of agreed upon skill sets. Whew what a sentence!

For example OWD could equal a person with 400 dives all over the world and many years of experience. Or OWD could mean 4 dives and no clue as to what “can” happen if you don’t pay attention.

So, Why don’t some of the “experts” come up with say a scalable skill level chart?

Example:
OWD skill levels 1-3 could equal level 1=diver with less than 15 dives including qualification dives. Level 2= diver with 15-30 dives with possible advanced qualifications but not enough dives to equal experience beyond level 2. Level 3= greater than 30 dives Advanced or not with enough experience to understand learning and diving is a lifelong process.

Advanced OWD and some specialty qualifications 1-3 levels. Level 1= have advanced qualifications and 6-8 or less than 10 dives (not really advanced except on paper). Level 2 15-30 logged dives excluding training qualification dive (outside classroom experience dives) and may include some specialty courses. Level 3= more than 30 logged dives excluding instructor lead classroom dives (real life experience diving) etc.

If any of this exists, I would like to know about it as an example, PADI for all of its good intentions is a company and it wants to make money and dominate the business. It directs people, instructors, etc to pay to become qualified at a variety of “specialty” courses, some of which are bogus. Night diving certification comes to mind as a good example. Yes there are differences but a separate qualification is a money scheme. If any one disagrees with this example I would like to know if they have a valid driving license and if they have a certificate for driving at night and if not why don’t they think they need one?

P.S., This is not to piss off people it's to stimulate a line of discussions about all kinds of stuff

Enjoy,
Dan:eek:
