In addition to up to $250,00 per incident, death/dismemberment/disability coverage & generous reimbursement benefits for dive gear lost or damaged as a result of dive injury, Preferred has a $10,000 lifetime maximum benefit for medical non-dive accidents occurring outside of the country of permanent residence & trip cancellation/interruption coverage for many of the losses incurred when an insured's ability to dive becomes substantially limited due to personal sickness or injury.
Keeping in mind that the difference in cost between Preferred & Master is $35 a year:
Preferred gives you $10,000 medical non-dive accident coverage, $10,000 vacation cancellation coverage, $5,000 vacation interruption benefits, and $250,000 per occurrence medical dive accident coverage.
Master gives you no medical non-dive accident coverage, no vacation cancellation coverage, no vacation interruption benefits & only a $125,000 lifetime maximum medical dive accident coverage.
As such, if while on a dive trip you sustained injuries in a motor vehicle accident in a foreign country that resulted in your having to extend your vacation by just one day, with Master you'd not only have to prove medical coverage/pay medical costs up front without DAN assistance, but also the charges for changing your flight(s) & an additional night's lodging & food would far exceed $35. Or, if you had to return home early (if air evac is needed, best have at least a $10k credit card limit), all prepaid portions of your trip would likely be forfeit. Imagine what could mean if you were on the first day of trip to Papua New Guinea or the like, or if the accident occurred the day before you were to depart on such travel. Even a cancelled/interrupted prepaid dive trip to the Florida Keys would make this coverage a godsend.
Also, if you haven't received serious medical attention recently, let me assure you that the costs can be astronomical. If you should sustain an AGE or Type II DCS with permanent residuals requiring long-term care, you could exhaust your health carrier's coverage & Master limits and/or pay substantial out-of-pocket expenses along the way. The DAN $250k per occurrence medical dive accident coverage would provide a nice cushion.
Think about it.
