Well, everyday can’t be Shangri-La.

Trust me, I’m not complaining. The weather was perfect – blue skies with big puffy cumulous on the horizon – there were still whales and dolphins and seals. Big flocks of birds frenzied on baitfish close to shore. But it was not like yesterday.

The surf was back at Monastery. Not much, manageable, but definitely back. I watched the sets carefully before entering and exiting.

The vis was back down, about 5’ to 15’ above 50’, and opening up to 20’ to 25’ deeper. I did two recreational dives and brought my camera. On the second dive, a harbor seal played with me for about half the dive, rubbing against my outstretch fist, and tugging once on my fins. I swam through a tremendous school of big blue bass.

I ate sandwiches with Priscilla on the beach and read between dives, and even dozed a little. Today was just one of those lazy, relaxed, nothing dramatic dive days.

Perfect.

But tomorrow’s dive... Tomorrow's dive is going to be a new first for me. :eyebrow:

(As you can see, I’m not a good photog, but here are some shots from today.)

Ben_ca emailed me offline that it may be a soupfin as well.

I think you guys may be correct.

Rick?

Looks like it to me. That just may be right. According to THIS article:

"There is currently very little information about the status of soupfin shark stocks off the West Coast. "

BTW, did you find your gloves?

No, the gloves are gone. I thought I put them in your little tub. Maybe they fell out somewhere along they way. No biggie. The dive was well worth a couple hundred bucks :D

Bummer.

I looked all around the trail today. Nothing.

But I have this memory of washing off one of your gloves at your truck. Weird.

This thread is giving me nightmares- last night, I had a dream that I was diving with Rick and he was demonstrating his back kick. Except everything was weird- we weren't wet and we weren't in scuba gear, but we were floating around like we were. OK, just thought that I would share... :D glad you guys are having fun out there, despite the gloves.

do it easy:

My back kick is a nightmare!

dannobee:
Rick, are you diving Saturday?
Lobos with Mark! :)

He's promised me about a four hour surface swim.

Man! I wish I could be there. Ben asked if I was going to be able to make it down while you are here Rick and unfortunately I'm just way to busy. At least I'll be able to make Lobos next Saturday for when Lynn and Peter are in town. Have fun with Mark, he's an excellent tour guide. :)
