I recently purchased a new back inflation BC with plenty of steel d-rings except for the one place that I would really want one - right along the slot for the intergrated weight pouch. On my Oceanic I clip my gage console to the retractor on the side of the BC and this is where I would like to keep it with the new BC, but there's nothing there to clip it to. So... my thought was to clip the console (while I'm still using one) to the pull strap that I use to tighten the shoulder harness, problem is that the d-rings at the end of these straps are plastic and I would like to replace them with stainless steel. Any thoughts on replacing d-rings at the ends of, what is porobably one-inch webbing?

Thanks for the help,

well i can give you two options:
1) get a SS Dring and just cut off the plastic d ring and do some heavy duty sewing (or have a tailor do it)
2) get one of those Dring kits for about 12 bucks (Note: i have not delt with scuba.com and can not recomend them)

I wouldn't worry about it for a retractor & console.
Those don't place that much force on the D Ring.
My wife has been using a plastic D Ring for her console over
a year with no issues. ~120 dives.
Nylon D-rings are very tough, more than likely it's stronger
than the plastic clip on the retractor.
Even if it were to break, since its for the console nothing will
be lost.

The only bad part about using a D Ring on the end of an
adjustment strap along with a Retractor is that depending
on the excess length of the strap, the console can start to
hang down pretty low and swing around quite a bit.

If you really want to replace it, it isn't that hard if the existing
Dring isn't sewn on.
Simply remove it and replace it with a stainless
D ring and tri-glide. If the strap is 1 inch or 2 inch, parts
are easy to find. If its 1 1/2 inch its REALLY tough to find
parts in this size. This is why my wifes is plastic; I could
never find stainless 1 1/2 inch drings and tri-glides.

On my wifes BC I added an extra D Ring to her strap
but not on to the end. I added it where the webbing
attched to the BC to keep the movement down.
This worked great for her.

I attached pictures.

Thanks for the advice Bill. It's given me some additional ideas.

divedadepths:

That's who has them! I think I ran a thread on the question a while back and it came up dry. Thanks!

Despite a slew of rings on my Avid, I too have a spot where I wish there were one.
