Crystal ball: Will American Airlines get me to Cozumel?

Looking for some help from the RMO community...

Please cross your fingers, think happy thoughts, pray, etc. that American Airlines gets their MD80s running before my flight to Cozumel this Sunday!!!!!

I think I'm jinxed. Two weeks ago, Frontier called to say they canceled their flights directly into/out of Coz, so I had to re-book via American Airlines. Now AA is grounding their MD80s.

They've cancelled 900 flights the last two days (yesterday and today) and it's not looking real promising this weekend, either.

Hopefully you'll get lucky. Are you saying Frontier canceled their Sunday service to CZM too? I thought they just got rid of their Wednesday flights and still had Sat/Sun Flights?

No - you are correct - they just canceled Wed flights. I am heading down Sun through Wed, so my return was canceled.

We leave next week for Ft. Lauderdale on Delta to catch the Nekton for a week. I am so scared this whole airline thing is going to affect us, too. It has been a crazy couple of months with our flights changing over and over, now I just want to make sure we make the boat! :11:

Frontier filed Chapter 11 this morning. They expect to continue to fly but are in a credit crunch.

Ha!! Good Luck, you should be fine. Us on the other hand are leaving tonight, we were to leave Sat morning till AA cancelled our flight, now we leave at 12:50 AM to ATL to MIA to COZ to get there 1 1/2 hours later then we would have on our frist flight.

We now have repacked our bags and will say goodbye to our now one checked bag which will more then likely not show up with us. I have to say I am becoming a "glass half empty" person for this trip.

Good news for you they wanted to rebook us to leave Sun. so you should be fine. Never thought I could have packed with only one checked bag for two of us, I guess 3 flights and 3 airlines make you do different things.

I hope you have Trip Insurance. At the risk of sounding like a broken record (I never cared much about risk anyway), it's a cheap way to lessen risks. If so, your insurance company may be able to help you get other arrangements with another airline.

Otherwise, you can ask American to endorse your ticket to another airline. Try by phone first, and request that they "accommodate" you as that word seems to have some special meaning to them. Next, go to the airport and talk to the agent face to face politely. They often do things with person friends at other counters at the same airport that are not in the books.

The amazing thing is all bags are underweight, correct size and most diving equipment is in carry-on's. Only things in check in bag: fins, boots, bathroom stuff, wifes BC and some of her clothes and her wetsuit. I am good to go, hope she does not read this.
