I know the front D-ring can be used for scooter attachment. What are some other ways you’re using the front and rear D-rings?

DPV is about it for the front. Not much else I really want to hang from my crotch during a dive.... On rare occasions at the surface I will hang something like a camera rig from there if it's on a longer leash as a temporary hold point if I'm trying to clean my shoulder d-rings up, but never anything during the dive.
I dive with pretty long tanks so I can't comfortably reach my rear d-ring with doubles on and prefer to use a drop hip d-ring if I need to put something in the back but even that is only ever temporary storage or weird mission specific type stuff, rarely would I "store" something there for a whole dive.

My crotch strap has 1 D-ring in the front, and 1 in the rear. The rear is useful for attaching an SMB and reel.

When I go shore diving, I often clip my fins together with double-ender, and carry them across the beach. Then just before entering the water, I use the same double-ender to clip them to the front D-ring. This keeps my hands free while wading through the surf zone. Once I'm waist deep or so, I can unclip the fins and don them in the water.

I can't reach my rear D-ring.

I clip my camera to the rear D-ring if I have to make a long scooter run without taking any pictures. And clip my own scooter there when I'm being towed.

I temporarily clip the bag that holds my SMB while students demonstrate inflating the SMB at the surface. Once they're done with the skill, I immediately remove it. I wouldn't want to swim with it there. (Ordinarily it lives in a pocket on my thigh.)

I could see other "temporary" clipping of things off as needed.

Might clip a mesh bag of tools to the front ring if it's a work dive.

Front D-ring is usually reserved for my DPV or as a temporary attachment point if I'm kitting up in the water. I wouldn't store anything else there since it would just dangle and be a potential entanglement hazard.

Rear D-ring is sometimes used to hold a reel/spools. However, like others have said, with doubles it's not always easy to access. Pockets are your friend for storage.

I will occassionally use my front d-ring to hold a small mesh bag or other tool while I am working or picking up small items, but nothing (except a scooter) is on it when I am swimming/moving locations.
