I have a Big-Eyes that I use for snorkelling without a hood - for this purpose it's great.
But for cold water diving where I use a 7mm hood, the hood tends to make my face bulge out and breaks the seal of the skirt & it leaks constantly.

The cressi Big Eyes is a great mask, essentially built by cressi to allow some corrective lenses to be set up on it, with the large volume and declined glass you will not be disapointed.

IMPORTANT : This year, cressi is coming out with the oceans eye... the son of the big eye let's say. The corrective lenses on teh big eye will be discontinued by the end of the year, and gradually provide them for the Ocean Eye. The other great point about the ocean eye is that it has been designed to be able to put and withdraw the lenses without any tools, therefore it will be easy to clean out if some mould gets in and so on.

I would highly recommend going for the Lince or Matrix if you don't use any corrective glass, or else go for the ocean Eye. The new patent for the mask strap and the system allows it to deal with strap tightening with 1 hand even with 7mm gloves over a hood and stuff.

hope the info helps :)

I come to the time in my life I needed and wanted an optical mask. To get one fast I had my friend Jeff White to make one for me. Owner of Scuba Shop USA and Add H20 For Fun. He has the deal were they put lenses in a stock Scuba Max Mask and sell them at a stupidly low price.

So the Big Eyes go in the bag with the Visualulator, a few fisheyes and I don't know what. Then I see BIG EYES in optical. Yes you always need a back up are five are ten isn't that right.

So I guess I'll be sending for a new Big Eye in clear.

An instructor I know, very near-sighted, has been diving nothing but Big-Eyes for years. It fits him perfectly and he easily gets his prescription put in them.

I just picked up a Cressi Penta at Beneath the Sea, after trying on at least half a dozen masks by just about every manyfacturer there. As soon as I put it on, it just felt right. My friend loves his Atomic, which didn't seal against my face - I could feel a big gap on the side. It all depends on the shape of your face and the mask design. I've had a mask for years that presses uncomfortably against the bridge of my nose and leaks at the slightest bit of beard stubble. I can't wait to try the Penta. It should improve my comfort level and my dives. I second the motion - FIT FIT FIT

I bought a pair off of here based on the recommendations of everyone on this site. In short, I will never buy another mask from Cressi.

I took it on my trip to Turks and Caicos and it kept leaking. I let my wife try it thinking maybe it was the shape of my face, but it leaked on her too. I checked for leaks and never found any. Then we gave it to the dive master on our boat and it leaked on him. He said it was not the first issue he had seen with this mask.

..snip..

That's a pretty extreme statement. Cressi makes masks in all shapes and sizes just as faces come in all sizes and formats. Just because one model of mask doesn't fit your or your wife's faces doesn't necessarily mean that the mask is at fault.

Mine doesn't fit me all that well. But I still have it as a backup. My normal mask is one I bought in 94. I'm looking to try one of those Atomics masks.

I do own a "pair" (since I have a backup). I love mine. My wife and son hate them. Wouldn't you know it - our faces are different shapes! Fit is the first, second, and third factor in whether a mask is right for you or not. Don't ever buy a mask based on anyone's recommendation unless you are certain you can return it after wearing it.
